I called up yesterday and got offered 20% off line rental (£38.50 with movies down to £30.80) for 6 months - I just said I wanted to know how much my sky would go up to after the VAT increase and what proportion of that was movies as I found it quite expensive but still used it - what is everyone else saying exactly?! Will also ring up on behalf of my OH later in the week (my sky is actually registered at my Mum's).

I did actually get cut off before she could confirm she had applied the 20% to my account - is it worth ringing back and asking for more? Was just going to email them to ask them to confirm but if it's worth more I'll phone!

Can I confirm that if they offer you this kind of deal, they do in fact tie you into another contract? As I mentioned previously, I should be moving house in about 7 or 8 weeks, so cannot get caught up in a contract.

My deal does not tie me into a contract but I am well out of existing contracts as been a sky users for about 15 years

Too many of you are phoning. Be patient!

My husband phoned them last week because he wanted to see if he would be offered a better HD deal than the one we have, nothing to do with any posts on here. :)
If at first you don't succeed ........ ;) Alternative autism therapies should be free!!

I don't know how to use it.
Use this button multiquote_off.gif on each quote then quote.gif on the last.

Then fill in after each quote :)

Same here, Xmas 1997 I became a customer. But as I will be moving soon I do not want to run the risk of having a contract to pay off, particularly as I will be wanting to start again at my new address... however if I can get my bill halved in the meanwhile then that would be brilliant

thanks for this, I may try calling again. I called a couple of months back telling them I may have to cancel and to see if they could reduce my package keeping kids channels.
The guy I spoke to just told me how much it'd all be, not offering any discount whatsoever.

I first had an amstrad sky plus box that kept freezing and failing recordings. i contacted cust serv by email and they replaced the box (over 12 months old). the new amstrad box lasted 3 months before it did the same. again they replaced it with a thomson box, and ive had no problems. then about 12 months ago i signed up to their phone service, but realised after my first bill that it was cheaper for me to stay on bt. they cancelled it but then for 3 months they still charged me, i contacted them each month and eventually got my money back, but threatened to leave. They offered me no compensation for my time so i contacted cust serv again. they put me a connection into my other living room (normal cost £65) as i was having work done on my house. I then called and asked if there were any offers on another sky box and multiroom (for the kids) and they told me it would cost £200 for the box, so i didnt bother. By this time id had enough of them anyway but we cant get virgin here so i stayed with them while i looked at bt. i caaled them before xmas to cancel and i ended up with a new HD box and free HD. The kids wanted the multiroom so i got that as well. The tv in both rooms for a tenner a month more, and im not tied into a contract so i can cancel the multiroom if i get a bit skint.

I think you have to be more persuasive and actually go with the intention of cancelling.
If you start talking about 'may' cancel, that will just give them the hint of a weakness in your threat.

Cancel if you have to, follow through with your threat. At the end of the day you have to give 31 days notice so you will not be instantly cut off and you can always rescind your cancellation a few days later or they may call you back with an offer.
