i ve had the basic package for a year or so [£24.50] but been with sky for years . phoned them regarding any kind of deal to which the first operator said sorry none available , i told them that friends have different deals [ ie all channels half price for 6 months] and i was dissapointed that none was comming my way he then put me through to cancelation teams i explained that i thought it was unfair to which they replied sorry still none available to which got my back up a bit and i blurted out "then i wish to cancel" you could have heard a pin drop [in my house] " emmmm wait a mo then and i will see my manager" came the reply 2 min later [with me bitting my lips] oh we can do a deal but this is a one off , aye right !! me thinks , we will give you all the channels for £26 quick as a flash i screamed DEAL and that was that , so for an extra £1.50 i get all movies and sports = result .

  • yes i did get a good deal cheers for that, but theres plenty more to go around im sure. by the way the operator i was speaking to said that sky are monotoring this site as apparently martin was on tv screaming at people not to pay full price . major tip is to mention thee word C A N C E L cheers martin
  • I left Sky a couple of months ago - since then I've received two letters offering me 12 months at half price whatever package I choose. First letter was within a month of leaving.
  • I'm going to ring tomorrow and cancel - we have a fairly basic package but with the added £10 per month charge for HD - which in my opinion is not worth 10p! I have threatened to leave before and got various half price offers, but i'm prepared to call their bluff this time to get a decent offer off them. I was previously told that the better the package you have (i.e. the more expensive!) then the more they will offer to keep you as a customer. So our basic package might not attract half price movies, etc - but here's hoping!

My question, though, is if they do end up disconnecting me and by some miracle don't contact me with an offer, does it cost to get re-connected? I agree with previous posts the best reason to state is affordability then they know you're genuinely considering cancelling if they don't try to keep your business

Im not sure that there is much truth to them offering better deals to high package or long time customers - they seem to have their standard selection of offers - and generally at any one time, you can only have one offer on your account.

To get the best offers you have to say "I AM CANCELLING DUE TO COST" - no messing around saying "I'm thinking about it", or "I'm seeing what you have to offer". If you do actually cancel, during the last month you will get several calls to try and get you to stay, and then once you are no longer a customer, they will send out letters regularly with even better offers (currently 12months half price all packages - though HD is excluded iirc). Reconnection is always free, and you can reconnect on whatever package you like.

If you can do without Sky for a year, then you will be classed as a new customer, and you can get the really amazing deals! If you have a partner with a different surname, you could always try and sign up as a new customer straight away and say you've just moved in!

What HD channels do you even get with your basic package?

Could you cancel the HD bit to save yourself £10 a month? You do realise if you do that then you'll still get BBC HD, ITV HD etc for free?
A big believer in karma, you get what you give :A

  • Well I finally managed to convince my husband to call sky and threaten to leave (SKY is in his name). This took ages as he kept saying if I lose my sky! Crazy man!

The result of a phone call is a saving from £84 a month to £56 a month! I am made up! This is for all the channel, HD, Phone and internet!

As I have lurked on here reading everyones advise I thought I should come and say thank you!

  • Hi, I rang today as my previous 6 months half price was up, spoke to cancellations and they offered me another 6 months half price straight away, very happy with them
    Thanks

  • Had a 6 months half price offer with sky which ended a couple of months ago. Phoned them up last week and was offered 25% discount for the next year which would work out about £12 month. Said I would think about it as really wanted half price again. Phoned them again today and they have told me that they now do sky unlimited broadband in my area. They offered me this will all calls, line rental etc. for £24 a month. They would not take anything off my existing package but just offered me free line rental with the phone package for a year which is £12 month. Bit hacked off as I thought by taking an extra package out with them, I would get offered more discount. Have said I will think about it. Anyone been in a similar situation and if so did they get offered anything better?
