My half price offer ran out last month. I phoned just before it expired and was told no new offers would show on my account until the existing offer had finished so ring back once it had expired. I rang again just after it expired and was told no, I had had two offers running back to back so they could not offer me any thing else. I rang today (a month after the half price offer ended) and was given another 6 months at half price without any trouble at all and was told to ring back 31 days before the 6 months are up if I am still experiencing financial difficulties then.

Moral of the story is - if at first you dont succeed, try, try again!
  • Spoke to a lovely Scots guy this morning who, without any kind of fight, gave me the option of half price for 6 months or 25% off for 12 months. I chose the 6 months option and was also told to call back after 6 months if I was still experiencing financial difficulties. Nice. And it will be free for me next month as my DD goes out on Monday and can't be stopped, so even better :D.

    It's only a game

11 July I phoned up, said to cancel. not offered anything
so here we are 11 August, and no Sky
so at least I am now saving money - soon see how much it will be missed or not!
so be warned, that they do not always offer anything. up to you if you go through with the cancellation or not!

Twice in the past they have accepted my cancellations too!
This time first ever they offered me 20% off for 6 months.
Not much of a deal but I just took it and I will phone again and cancel after that.

I only have sky with them as they don't have phone and broadband in my area and are more expensive than BT.

I only have a fairly basic package but want a 1/2 price sports deal - any ideas? Was thinking of saying cancelling as nobody watches the channels & OH goes to pub occasionally to watch games as we can't afford?
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Tell them "I would like to cancel sky television package" and nothing else... you will get put through to someone else who will ask how they can help, again say "I would like to cancel my sky tv", nothing else.

Wait for them to asky you why you would like to cancel and make up a reason - good ones are you are short of money with the cost of everything else going up, or they have cut your hours at work so you need to cut costs....

They will chat to you along the lines of "if we could cut your costs, would you stay" and may ask you some questions about how you use sky i.e. what channels do you watch, do you record programmes etc...

They will eventually ask who you have internet and phone with and will try and get you to take their broadband and phone - if you don't want to do this either tell them you don't have internet and phone or that you are in contract with another provider still.....

They may offer you a new sky HD box (or may not) but if you take this option they will require you to take the HD sub at £10 a month if you don't already have...

Stick to your guns and keep saying its too expensive and eventually they will offer you half price for 6 months....

Don't worry its a lot easier and quicker than I have made it sound and its all very friendly.

I can't stress heavily enough though, DO NOT ring up and ask for half price offer or ask for a special offer or discount.... in my experience ONLY asking to cancel your TV package works....

Finally, I only have their full TV pack (cheapy channels plus all movies and sports but not HD. I do not have phone / broadband with them so I have no idea how having these will affect what offers you get.

Good luck and make sure to report back how you get on....

Oh and if you get 6 months half price, ask when the half price offer ends and stick a note in your diary for 30 days before that date to ring back again and get another 6 months half price ;)

    hi lifes grand plan

I hope you dont think I'm being cheeky but how much do you pay for your tv package, I would like sky tv , we all have mobiles so no need for phone line , (bb is with virgin at £21 per month) at the moment, everytime I see one of there adverts (sky )its for all three tv bb,phone line so have never rang because dont need phone line. any advice would be great. hope this makes sense

I have just phoned and we currently pay £72.50 per month. She said she could cancel the HD and Multiroom free of charge and then give us half price on our tv package for 6 months making it £26 per month. She went away and came back and said cos we have only been with the 10 months she cant do it till the 12 month part, so im stuck till October paying £72.50.

Does anyone have any suggestions or has been in the same boat??

    Thanks

Little you can do if you are still in your minimum contract period, apart from possibly reducing your package?

Anon, re your reply to my post about my downgrading to one pack til next August and still receiving the 6 packs, I think someone posted on here that you can't get another deal if you are already in the middle of one.

Thank you - My point was even if you are in a half price deal can you add/remove one or more of the channel packs (or indeed sport/movies) without losing the half price deal? If you can, could you theoretically drop down to one pack only and still get the six (not a new/different deal, taking advantage of the change in packages/pricing).

My second point was if you need to give 30 days notice would you give it in m11 so that your contract ends at the end if your 12 months (and still keep you current price until the end)?

    Many thanks

If they accept your cancellation just say you've changed your mind! They're not stupid, they know your bluffing. Just keep ringing back until your offered something. It's up to the operator too. Some are better than others and each individual has a set amount of offers they can give each week.
