Just had call on my mobile from chief execs office, lady was very nice, and apologised profusely for my issue but the advisor I spoke to had it totally wrong apparently and there is no new contract on my account, I can cancel when I want, she is going to carry out an investigation into what customers are being told as she could see that the operator had made notes on my account to say that she had told me I was locked into a contract when this was not true!
She explained that this offer of a free box had been unconditional in every sense and I was 100% correct.
She then offered me 6 months free subscription for 6 months! :beer:

I rang up this week. I lose my job in September so needed to cut back anyway. Explained the situation and asked if there were any offers, but was told there wasn't. So asked to cancel the HD package. She did it straight away and even tried to convince me to cancel my documentary pack (If I've understood correctly, with the new entertainment packs I think having this will allow me all the rest of the channels for free for 12 months so didn't want to do that for the sake of a £1 per month). Oh well - well done to everyone else who got a discount. In all fairness I didn't push for any offers (I get very shy on the phone so don't have the confidence to do that).0

I phoned last week and was told no offers.
Called again tonight and was told no offers. I said I knew others were getting offers so why wasn't I. They said it was because people on the Martin lewis website were abusing the offers!!!
I ended up with 25% off my bill for 6 months which is not the 50% discount I was after but better than nothing so can't complain.0 -
My mate has phoned, she's been with them 12 years got a standard box (no sky+) variety with kids pack & movies and wanted sky+
They told her if she wanted sky+ she had to pay £100 for the box, she could have a free sky+ Hd box but would have to pay £10.25 for hd package, as she hasn't got a hd tv it's not worth it for her. She asked to be put through to cancellations and they cancelled it.
She's gutted she couldn't get sky+september wins - toshiba laptop, timotei shampoo & conditioner, mccains games, pimms picnic blanket.
october wins - grants tumblers, £20 petrol voucher, sega console, iphone
novembers wins - £50 on walkers rainy day, £50 itunes voucher
march wins - dog treats0 -

Sorry to hear about your job, hope you get sorted in that respect.
I really think its worth calling back, a lot of people have commented that it depends on the advisor you get regarding offers. It took me three attempts and cancelling before I got offered the 6 months half price. And to be honest, these offers should benefit people in your circumstances just a little perseverance needed, tell them your thinking of cancelling all together as Virgin are offering half price on full entertainment package for 6 months which is better value!

You only get the offers if you specifically state you want to cancel and ask to be put through to cancellations, you should not have mentioned "other people" as that makes you look like you're trying it on.
Are you sure it wasn't you who mentioned MSE ? It seems an odd thing for the Sky CSA to bring up otherwise.MSE- The Glitchhikers guide to the galaxy0 -

I did speak to cancellations, I do know others who are getting the deals - 2 people at my work, and of course I didn't mention MSE myself, I'm not stupid!0 -

I totally agree that you have to play dumb,and a bit inoccent to take advantage of the offers. It helps massaging the ego's but I definately wouldnt let it be known that I was aware of offers!
And actually following another thread re Tesco sim only offer, as soon as I called o2 and mentioned the offer, It was suggested that there had been a big wave of calls following MSE post! Thats the power of the people my friend!:rotfl:0
