Sky offer to me (existing Customer)

I did search the thread but could not find any evidence of my question being answered.
Has anyone taken sky up on their supposed offer of a "free Sky HD Box" as a replacement for their existing Thomson?
I got a cold call from Sky in April offering me just that, I made it quite clear in the conversation at least 3 or 4 times that there were no catches, no new contracts, no fees etc and the only thing was that they would take away the existing box.
After a huge amount of double checking with her that there was nothing more to it, I agreed especially as the box was on its last legs.
But today I decided to call to see if I could get a 6 months half price deal on subscription, and was told that as I had agreed to a new free box, I also agreed to a new 12 month contract!!!
I even remember asking the lady on the phone that saying yes doesnt mean Im locked into a new contract and she said no.
The lady gave me the exact date and time this lady cold called me and suggested I complain via my sky about this blatent miss selling.
Even the conformation letter i received a few days later didnt mention anything about new contract, I am livid because they lied on the phone very blatently and over on AVforums it seems that others have been told the exact same thing.
Its disgraceful to say the least, I have done the standard email complaint but also sent an email to the chief execs office too.
I expect they will say they cannot locate the recorded phonecall I received, when they listen to it and find I am 200% correct!
Just be aware, if you have accepted this free equipment, you too will be locked into a new contract whether you were told or not.0 -
I rang yesterday to cancel sky sports and was given an offer all be it at bit strange! I took it anyway.instead of paying an extra £20 a month for sports you pay 12.25? And for that you get ss1 or ss2.you can alternate between the 2 as many times as you like.i know its a pain to keep ringing up,but we only really watch prem matches so it will work for us!!0

So, having been inspired by this thread I called Sky on Monday and said I wanted to cancel, no offers made and accepted my cancellation.
Much to the horror of my OH and children!!!
Left it a few days and called today (after recieving a call from a company saying my equipment was out of warranty) under the pretense that I was concerned about the cold call and had a quick discussion with helpdesk about not really wanting to leave etc....
She suggested that I call and ask about offers as when I last spoke to them I had an exsisting offer of 25% off basic package and they can't overlap offers.
So, went through to the cancellation team, and told them Virgin were offering full entertainment half price, blah blah.......and was offered 6 months full package, movies, sports all channels for £26!!! Very happy!!! There was a bit of faffing while they removed the other offer, but its worth asking to ditch an offer if it works out better on this offer.
Told Oh who is delighted to have his sports package back! Good luck!0 -
I called on Sunday as my 6 months half price is due to end this month,I explained that in feb they told me to ring back for a new offer and the woman applied it straight away no questions asked.I called again later for my mother and asked to cancel, the bloke tried to get me to cut the package down but I told him that I'd rather cancel than cut and he offered 6 months half price. I did have to tell him her money situation wasn't great at the moment and even though she wanted to keep sky at the moment it was impossible without getting behind on payments. He told me to ring back 9th jan for a new offer. HTH0

I cancelled mine completely had had enough. Soon came the letter in the post offering me 1year for half price plus NO contract0

Just finished my 6 months half price offer so phoned today. Got offered 25% off my package for 12 months and 50% off my multi room for 12 months. Got my multi room box upgraded to a new HD box and got a £20 credit onto my account to cover the HD subs on the multiroom box until September when Sky make that free of charge to all 2nd multiroom boxes. Happy with that!0

Maybe if you'd told them you was recording the conversation they might have come clean.0 -

I appreciate the sentiment ie nothing in life is free, if they had said in the phonecall that there would be a contract to agree to, I wouldn't have agreed to the deal. I'm angry that they blatantly lied to get me to accept. I shouldn't have to record phonecalls, admittedly it would have been a great idea but as they cold called me at 8:30pm I really wasn't prepared funnily enough!
Incidentally about a month after having the new box installed, I got a letter from sky offering me the same deal! and nowhere on the letter did it mention new contract or any reference to hidden terms and conditions, infact they said in the letter " don't worry, the only thing you need to do is give your old box to the engineer" which we did. I still have the letter.0 -

That letter should help, did you mention it to Sly when you spoke to them?
Cold calling at that time of night is bang out of order, I'd have said pi$$ off :rotfl::rotfl:0 -
The funny thing is I did very nearly say that to the girl on the phone as I was convinced she was from a 3rd party saying they were from sky but weren't. It took ages for her to convince me she was genuinely from Sky and that she was genuinely offering me a box for free with no strings attached ( although now I know that part wasn't true!)
If I don't get a response from Chief Execs office or CServices then I will keep bombarding them with emails until the shysters get sick of me.0
