The pause, record, etc. is so nice to have that it might be worth a one-time splash out on a PVR with Freeview if you want to cancel Sky (on a quick search they start at 84.99 at Argos, if you look around you may get if for less).
Also some DVD recorders will let you playback a show as it records, which allows you to pause, rewind etc. Before Sky+ updated software last year so that it will work with just one feed to a communal dish rather than the two it normally requires, we had to go the DVD recorder route. I got a refurbished Toshiba for 50 quid a few years ago that does the job brilliantly, and we still use that if we need to record a second show while the Sky+ is already recording (when you only have one feed out to the dish, you can't record two channels at once).
Of the two options, I think the PVR is more convenient, but if you're on a budget and can find a cheaper DVD recorder that lets you playback and record at the same time (that feature is often called "timeslip" or "chasing playback"), that's a good alternative.0 -
I had the whole package not long ago, I cut down to the bare minimum because 1, my 6 month offer finished and 2, the football season finished.
Yesterday, I went for the free 2 month movie offer (thanks for the post), but already I noticed that I have seen 99% of the films, or the films which interest me. So it really is only the sport which really draw me, and upgrade to Movies at Christmas.
This is my dilemma, I think that the Sports package is too expensive, but then I think, if I go to the pub just once a month to watch a football match or Test Match, then it will cost the same as the subscription. Everybody in the family moans if I just have the Sports that I am selfish and demand Movies.
I was talking to somebody (in the pub) yesterday, and he said he rang up to cancel Sky hoping for an offer, but the difference was that he would not have cared if they had pulled the plug on him, and I think that comes through to the Sky Customer Services, he was offered 6 months at half price, without much effort.
This is going to be my approach, but I know it will end in tears.0 -
Just rang Sky.
Told NO offers on account, I then quoted Virgin, then told 20% for 6 months, having just come of a 50% for 6 months deal, I said I would speak to my partner and call back. (downgrade team)
I then left it 30 mins called back, I put myself directly through to cancellations and again told NO offers on my account. I then had a general chit chat about account, then told I am going to check 'another screen', comes back with 25% for 12 months!!
Persistance paid off!! If you get put through to downgrades, decline and ask for cancellations....
Thanks MLFORUM :beer:0 -
