  • Thanks UmbraFeles,
I'll sort it out, but will wait till I've all info to show her!

Just wanted to tell you as I'm registered member of Vista print, I just got 100 postcards free + p&p (so £4.33) and I've use it to do my RSVP cards :rotfl:

Thought I'd let you know as some of you got your save the date cards there and would have had to register as well!

    Bargain of my week!!! :T

On the down side though, my ring arrived and didn't fit , so now I've got to send it back and wait again!

Pern, I have managed to pick up some glassware from freecycle, also there are jars from Asda for £1. Going to Ikea too. I managed to get 100 sweet bags in my colour scheme from ebay for £3 incl p&p. Sounds like a great deal on your flowers, those bowls can cost a fortune!! Hope you manage to have the flowers you want, definitely agree about padding it out with cheaper blooms.

Glad you managed to find some for free/cheaply! I'm going to find some time this weekend to look through it & cost it up.
Yes the guy was very helpful & did his best to stick to the budget but it just wasn't possible for our requirements, I think we will definitely book him as he was so nice & having the bowls free is a massive plus, couldn't believe what some people were charging just to hire them! I think if I change my shower bouquet to a teardrop that will also save some pennies, just need to arrange some tweaks & it'll be ok :) OH's parents have very kindly offered to pay our registrar fees (which I found out today are over double what I assumed they'd be  ) so we can afford the flowers now anyway :D
Hope everything goes ok with the booking, we have had a letter 2day from the church saying that someone's already booked my preferred time of 2pm, and I can either have 12pm or 4pm??? :(

4pm seems very late and I want to wear my dress for as long as poss and make the most out of being centre of attention, for once!!! :D On the plus side we will only need one meal so it would be the MSE choice if not mine!

But then again, 12 noon seems a little early to me and I'm not sure how long we could drag out the pictures, but church and reception are opposite sides of town and traffic is notoriously bad on a Saturday so could plan to eat about 2pm ish? Plus extra wear from dress but (as I may be doing the food yet! :rotfl:) may well run out of time as I've got to help set up function room or deligate to someone I trust, and get the cake set up there! any views?

And thank you all for your words on the caterer problem, I'm just not answering her at the moment, think it might be easier until I meet with the club secretary next week, find out what I can do (eg. hang things etc) in the room and if I can use their kitchen etc. and when all is done tell her what's what!

Hmm that's a toughie, I'm not sure what to suggest tbh! If you can afford it, I think I'd say go for the earlier time & make the most of your day (& that dress!), but then if you think you will struggle to find the extra money required to keep everyone entertained/well fed & watered etc then you might be better off going for the later time. Let us know what you decide!

By the way Pern we are having church service at 1, drinks reception at venue at 3, meal at 4 evening at 730, buffet at 830 x

We were worried our days guests would be too full to sample anything from the BBQ later if we had our meal that late, as that is close to our original plan. I think we have our timing sorted now, what do you think, is this feasible? I am terrified of people getting bored or hungry & wanting to go early :o

    1.00 - Ceremony
    1.30 - 2.30 - Cocktail hour & photos
    2.30 - 4.30 - Wedding breakfast
    4.30 - 5.00 - Speeches
5.00 - 6.00 - Marquee changeover (tables moved out, more casual furniture put in) - this should only take around half an hour actually but during this time guests will have the opportunity to spend an hour walking round the lovely grounds, chilling by the bar/pool, or playing games such as giant chess & jenga (all provided for by our venue!)
6.00 - Evening guests start to arrive
    7.00 - Cut cake & first dance
    8.00 - 9.00 - BBQ is open

Eeeek Pern! How exciting! Booking the registrar makes it all the more real - we provisionally booked ours in Feb just to get our time!

We're getting married at 2pm, then photographs and general chatting, food probably around half 3-4 ish, evening guests at around 7 ish and then evening food at about 8 ish...

Plans could change tho, so what's for definite is the wedding's at 2... We didn't want 12 and I like even numbers so it had to be 2 :D (I'm a bit odd like that! :rotfl:)

My County is a little funny about that, I tried to provisonally book way back in Feb but they don't do that, you have to call up first thing a year in advance & hope someone else doesn't beat you to it! Luckily we have got what we are after! It is now provisionally booked for a month & we need to go in & give notice during that period, just trying to find out when OH can get time off work to do it as they're not open at the weekend or evenings.

Hehe I can be a bit funny about numbers too...there was talk of delaying the wedding until 2013 so we could save more & pay off our small amount of debt first, but I hated the idea of having 13 in our wedding date (& I'm not even superstitious about it!) & leaving it until 2014 was just too long for my liking lol.

Woohoo! We give notice in our lunchbreak today!
Plus we're meeting with our photographer after work this evening to go through all his pictures. He's a family member who's a wedding photographer but if he won't come down in price then we'll be going elsewhere (or my dad said we'll persuade him). I've got cheaper quotes at the ready :p
Costcutter - I can't believe how rude your caterer/friend is. Does she not realise this day is really important to you???? I'd seriously be considering another caterer.

Could he not do your photographs as a wedding gift? Hinty hint hint!

How lovely of your in laws to pay registrar fees! Glad you can afford the flowers. Have fun with costing up the sweetie bar, I got 100 bags from ebay for £3, they arrived yesterday and are fab!

Hope everyone is well. Pern your day sounds great - I was worried about that too but then our wedding co-ordinator said don't rush people through the day, make sure you have time for them to mill about as well so your plan sounds great xx

Thanks it is a tough one!

Your day set up sounds great!

OH and I decided 12 noon so we'll be rushed a bit in the morning but will have a longer day. Would rather have gone without the added expense though!

The vicar said our service would last about 45 mins so we're trying for:-

    12 noon - ceremony
12.45 - 2.00 - Photos, get across town to function room, receiving line and drinks!
    2.00 - 4.00 - Wedding Breakfast
    4.00 - 4.30 - Speeches
Now this is the awkward bit! What do we do now?
6.00 - Evening Guests start to arrive
7.00 - Cake cutting & Dance, Disco and buffet.

The other problem with 4pm wedding was that the meal would start at 6ish and evening guests would be arriving while we're still eating!

I've been looking for some games for the kids, we've already got giant draughts! Now need something for smaller kids, as the dance floor is quite big and they would be out the way!

    Getting there slowly.

Hmm 1.5 hours to fill, remind me what's your venue like again? The lady running our venue said she could print up maps for our guests to go on a walk round the grounds (great for older guests), there are giant games which are suitable for anyone really (kids supervised of course), & the bar area is really lovely as they have a pool & are finishing up a water feature at the moment so there's plenty of space to chill there :) I don't know if you'd be able to do anything similar perhaps?

For the small kiddies you could make up a colouring/activity book for them & get some crayons etc as a little gift maybe? Shouldn't cost too much if you DIY it.

Good idea, the problem is that the function room is in a club, although you could take a walk down to the river and see ducks etc. (Actually got a lovely bridge so I might have some pictures there weather permitting), it is a well used path, the room itself is great with the sunken dance floor which would be great for the kids and of course they'd be safe and out the way!

It would give us extra time to talk to guests as some have come a long way and as its mostly family, most people would know each other and want to catch up. For instance, I haven't seen my cousins for 4 yrs and although we talk online and occasionally on the phone, we still have lots to catch up on! Perhaps it will work out ok?

Plus plenty of time to have extra pictures and make sure everyone is in one! It may sound stupid, but my OH and son weren't in any of my sisters pictures and I was only in one!

Well if that's the case, I think you'll be alright, it's not that long for people to fill! The kids are the ones that may kick up a fuss, could you maybe put a movie on for them, or hire a magician/bouncy castle/etc? Just something to keep them amused & out of the way before the party gets going. Either that or with the colouring book maybe add a couple of cheapo small toys to go with it, again it's cheap but will keep them occupied while the grown ups are chatting away.
