Sorry to hear your MiL is a pain pern! Not a very nice conversation to overhear.
We are going to get our sweets from Booker, not too sure on display yet until I have all my glass ware (need to find some tall martini glasses).

BM dresses are from Hammonds and were £169 each (ouchhhh!). My mum and dad are kindly paying for them.

Hope you manage to find a decent florist, we managed all in for £180 as I want a tiny bouquet and have brought fishbowls etc ourselves.

Danielle, definitely worth asking around it's amazing how many people know someone who does something whether it be cakes, flowers etc.

Kaz hope you get on ok with your caterer, tell her to back off!!

I'm pretty amazed I managed to hold it together when she asked me directly how much they were contributing! Ah well, she's usually alright but sometimes has some funny ideas...

I think I will look into the sweets more, might make a nice but cheap favour if we DIY it! Could get some old fashioned striped candy bags from ebay which might look good for ours.

Wow, that's very kind of your parents! At least you know they will fit perfectly too :)

The trouble is I'm after some expensive roses & calla lillies to go with my dress...might ask if he can pad it out a bit more with some cheaper blooms! The guy we are thinking of going with said he'll let us hire the fishbowls for free (assuming he gets them all back undamaged) so he is definitely the best so far :)

I get to book the registrar tomorrow, exciting :D What time is everyone else having their ceremony? We are thinking of going for 1pm, the wedding breakfast would then be served at about 2.30pm, evening guests arrive at 6pm & the BBQ on from 8.00-9pm, do you think that's a good idea? I don't want the food too close together as I don't want people to be too full to sample anything from the evening do, but I also don't want the day to be too long for everyone & they end up leaving early!

Thanks danielle. There is one in a town a few miles away so will definitely pop over there at some point to have a look! Thanks for the tip.

Pern, I have managed to pick up some glassware from freecycle, also there are jars from Asda for £1. Going to Ikea too. I managed to get 100 sweet bags in my colour scheme from ebay for £3 incl p&p. Sounds like a great deal on your flowers, those bowls can cost a fortune!! Hope you manage to have the flowers you want, definitely agree about padding it out with cheaper blooms.

Hope everything goes ok with the booking, we have had a letter 2day from the church saying that someone's already booked my preferred time of 2pm, and I can either have 12pm or 4pm??? :(

4pm seems very late and I want to wear my dress for as long as poss and make the most out of being centre of attention, for once!!! :D On the plus side we will only need one meal so it would be the MSE choice if not mine!

But then again, 12 noon seems a little early to me and I'm not sure how long we could drag out the pictures, but church and reception are opposite sides of town and traffic is notoriously bad on a Saturday so could plan to eat about 2pm ish? Plus extra wear from dress but (as I may be doing the food yet! :rotfl:) may well run out of time as I've got to help set up function room or deligate to someone I trust, and get the cake set up there! any views?

And thank you all for your words on the caterer problem, I'm just not answering her at the moment, think it might be easier until I meet with the club secretary next week, find out what I can do (eg. hang things etc) in the room and if I can use their kitchen etc. and when all is done tell her what's what!

  • Oh and congrats on sorting out the BM dresses becca!
I found choosing the design for them almost more difficult than choosing mine. And my youngest daughter drew what she wanted on the chalk board with an added note "with tiara and veil please" (I gave in to the tiara), it is cute though and she keeps refering to it as "our wedding" and starts sentances with "when we get married...".

I've to wait till next year to make mine as my sister now thinks she may want another baby!!!
I've had to get my best friend on standby.

Eeeek Pern! How exciting! Booking the registrar makes it all the more real - we provisionally booked ours in Feb just to get our time!

We're getting married at 2pm, then photographs and general chatting, food probably around half 3-4 ish, evening guests at around 7 ish and then evening food at about 8 ish...

Plans could change tho, so what's for definite is the wedding's at 2... We didn't want 12 and I like even numbers so it had to be 2 :D (I'm a bit odd like that! :rotfl:)
Planned our wedding, still planning lessons

Woohoo! We give notice in our lunchbreak today!
Plus we're meeting with our photographer after work this evening to go through all his pictures. He's a family member who's a wedding photographer but if he won't come down in price then we'll be going elsewhere (or my dad said we'll persuade him). I've got cheaper quotes at the ready :p
Costcutter - I can't believe how rude your caterer/friend is. Does she not realise this day is really important to you???? I'd seriously be considering another caterer.
    Getting married: 21/06/12! :D
    Current weight loss: 2st!!!
