    Hey guys

I'm doing my own cake do you think this will be ok? I have a small cake company that I do in my spare time and I am allergic to gluten so want to be able to eat my own cake!

Just thinking though I probably ought to do a dummy run a month or so before - do you think?

What sort of cakes are people going for - tierd? cupcakes? macaroon towers etc?

Also just wondered when you guys are all sending out invites? I was thinking November? Is that too early? Haven't done save the dates and not sure if I will or not.

    thanks

    I've been Money Tipped!
Dulcie I think making your cake would be a lovely touch. I was going to do it but OH is dairy intolerant, couple of members of family are coeliac so I decided to have it made as a lot of stress! Plus I'll be at work the day before so someone else can do it for me! But sounds a lovely idea.
I would definitely practice. We're having a 3 tiered cake.

Sending out invites end of Nov/beg of Dec x

  • Hey Dulcie, I'm also making my wedding cake! I've been practising by making birthday cakes for family members! Recipes vary a bit and I want to 'test' out different ones! ;) Though have to say, it's not doing my waistline much good!! Definitely go for it! I think the tins can be quite expensive to buy so am looking at hiring from somewhere local or maybe buying/reselling on ebay.

    Hi,

We are having a four tier cake but i'm not making it as frankly i'm rubbish at things like that and have no patience lol!
For invites I was going to send them out in January and give people until April to reply - does that sound enough time as we need to give our veue final numbers and any dietary requirements by then.

Hi Dulcie, if you think it won't stress you out too much then go for it! For me personally, I love making cakes it's great fun but I will stress out like crazy that it's not "perfect" & be paranoid everyone thinks it looks or tastes awful, & I don't need that kind of stress! Best of luck to you! I'd definitely do a few test runs, practice makes perfect ;)

I think we are having a 3 tier cake but we haven't made any decisions on that one yet!

I am hoping to send out invites in Jan/Feb I think, as we need our replies at the latest a month before for our caterer, & I want to leave at least a couple of weeks before that deadline so I can chase up the non-repliers! (You just know someone is going to "forget" to send it back on time, or can't make up their mind what to eat...) etc.

We had a meeting with our caterer at the weekend & this is our initial plan for the food, please let me know what you think!
    • Breads & dipping oils on the tables to begin...
    Starters.
    • Fan of galia & cantaloupe melon (v) with optional parma ham
    • Garlic mushrooms en croute (v)
    Mains.
    • Lemon & thyme roast chicken with sweetcorn stuffing
    • Seared salmon samphire with hollandaise sauce
    • Summer vegetable tartlet with minted pea pesto (v)
All served with an assortment of vegetables - (roasted & new potatoes, carrots, cauliflower, brocolli, sugar snap peas).

    Desserts.
    • Strawberries & cream (v)
    • White Chocolate cheesecake with dark chocolate sauce, & fresh raspberries (v)
Then in the evening we are having a BBQ! :D This is so much more us then a standard buffet & actually works out cheaper!

    We're planning on serving:-
    • Chorizo, cumberland, & moroccan lamb sausages
    • Beef, pork & apple, & chicken & tarragon burgers
    • Vegetarian burgers & sausages
    • Corn on the cob
Then there will be a "salad station" with:-
    • Hummus
    • Coleslaw
    • Mixed leaf
    • Tomato & red onion
    • Cucumber, fennel & artichoke
Do you think there's something for everyone with these options? Would you swap anything? I was thinking of swapping the last 2 salads for a pasta salad & a potato salad, but my OH seems to like the sound of those two...Opinions please!

Hi Dulcie, the OH and I are having cupcakes for our wedding and one top tier... Just cos I can't really stand fruit cake, nor can half the people coming to my wedding!

Pernicious, your menu sounds scrummy! Can I have an invite to your wedding?! Or at least, can you throw us something off the BBQ? ;) It will be a great success!
Planned our wedding, still planning lessons

Thanks for the feedback, I'm really looking forward to it, just hope I don't make a mess down my dress (whenever I find it!) as I'm such a messy eater lol!
