    Hi All,

    I'm new here but have been reading up on the weddings forum for a while now.

    I am also getting married in June 2012 - 30th June. So far we have:

    * Booked and paid deposit on venue
    * Booked Wedding Cars
    * Booked and chosen cake design and paid deposit
    * Paid deposit on chair covers
    * Paid deposit for videographer
    * Sent out save the date magnets

    Seems a lot when I set it out like that but some major things still to organise like flowers, photos and entertainment.

    Just wanted to say hi to you all and to say I know how you feel about not having that 'wow' moment when trying on dresses - I went for the first time to get some ideas on Saturday and found it all really dishearteneing as nothing looked right on me :(

    Hi MissGG, I'm getting married the same day as you & haven't done anywhere near as much as you! So be proud of what you've achieved already :)

    As for dresses, well I'm in the same boat...I think we need to look further afield that's all! Time to do some research online. Good luck with your dress hunt x

    Got a little question, our venue (which is an italian restaurant) have asked for £20 per person up front for the wedding breakfast, now it's only costing approx. £33 per person altogether including drinks and the service charge, so this seems like a huge amount to me? Plus it's non-refundable. Is this the norm, to ask for so much upfront?

    Sorry to stick my nose in here...and im not sure if its the cynic in me but thats a huge deposit to be paying so far in advance of your wedding and it being non refundable....to me alarm bells may ring...because

    If for example you have 50 guests at the reception thats a deposit of £1000...it sounds to me like there may be a bit of a cash flow problem with the resturant and they are attempting to use your money to prop up the business in the short term...there is very little justification in my mind of asking for that sort of money to secure a booking 15 months ahead of the date.Its certainly not the case that they need to pre order anything substantial for your wedding yet so there is really no need for such a large chunk of the bill upfront! that £1000 should be sat in your bank account not theirs with so long to go.In my mind £10 per head would be more reasonable and in honesty any business would think the same unless they were desperate for money due to possible cash flow issues.
    Based on the assumption of 50 people and the fact that you say £33 will cover food drink and service charge then thats only £650 plus any other incidentals to pay on the day or shortly before...you are basically paying the majority up f front

    Certainly before you hand over your deposit look into the possibility of getting wedding insurance and check that they cover the type of venue/resturant for all eventualities therefore if the resturant does cease trading before your wedding you will be covered by your insurance.
    Hope you dont mind me sticking the oar in and I dont want to scare monger but a non refundable deposit of that amount this far before the wedding is quite excessive and before you hand over that type of money you need to make sure you know that you are getting the best for it...
    Im in no way suggesting that the resturant you have chosen is in financial trouble and there is nothing to suggest it is..but it is a large deposit they require just to secure a booking.
