    I've been Money Tipped!
I'm not sure on venue deposits generally but most we looked around were a 500 deposit total. I do think that's a bit much, maybe even a fiver per head would do as deposit.

Well I emailed him and asked if we could pay £300 to book it, then more nearer the time. Also tried haggling the price a bit ;) I'll let you know what they say. :)

  • This does seem a high percentage to pay, our catering deposit is roughly 25% of what our estimated total bill is. I would definitely not be prepared to pay such a large amount percentage-wise - hope they come back with some good news for you!
  • Hello,
I am also getting married on 2nd June, a very popular date indeed. Just booked my church and reception venue. Whole thing is going to cost about £10,000 which is a lot of money but we have huge families and wanted a church wedding so thats the cost.

Yay ashtray_heart! Congrats on booking the church and reception venue.

And just to put your mind at rest, the average wedding is about £21,000 so £10,000 really isn't that bad, especially for a church wedding with two huge families :)

Hey girls... there's around 14 months to go now!

I hope the planning is coming along well, the OH and I went to Hobbycraft last week to pick up some paper, ribbon and envelopes to make some invitations, we made a wedding chart (so he knows when to do things by) and we sorted out what design we want our wedding rings to be (just gotta type up a brief so the OH can give it to his friend who used to be in the jewellery trade so knows a few people!)

Also it's 2 weeks until I tell my family the news about our wedding (we've kept it quiet as we wanted to get most things booked before telling them as they kinda took over a bit with my sister's wedding which resulted in her getting married in Vegas.) Eeeek, I'm quite excited, and scared as I feel like I've kept it quiet for soooo long! :D

    We're hoping we've avoided everything!

Pern, I didn't get that feeling at all, until I actually found my dress. So keep looking!

Thank you - some people don't seem to get that feeling but I always thought I would just know when it feels right, & although I've tried on some very nice dresses, they just don't feel quite right! I will keep searching, may have to go down the custom made route at this rate though!

Honestly Pern I felt exactly like you. I went round so many local dress shops and actually found my dress about 40 miles away. Ask around for recommendations for a good dress shop.
    Where are you based?

Not that far from you actually - I'm in Bedfordshire! I definitely need to look a little further afield but am just wary about travelling miles only to be disappointed!
