Thanks for the replies-its not the butchers fault-I just think my fridge went on a "go slow" (seems fine now-very temperamental.....goes from positively balmy to freezing my lettuce, for no good reason). Well, Ive floured it, browned it and its currently gently bubbling in some red wine (with lots of herbs and garlic), and it smells fine. I will definitely eat it and will update tomorrow on any after effects...

Did roast chicken last nigt for dinner.
Hubby carved most of meat off.
    wanted to do rubber chicken

but it was left out in kitrchen overnight and room tempeture but covered.

Should i risk boiling up carcass to make chicken soup as gugess you cant be too careful.

Kitchen fairly cool and night and was well covered.

I would, personally, but then I'm not exactly the leading authority on food safety - I eat anything!

I'd have thought that if it's well and truly boiled up, it'd be fine.

When I had an iffy joint [from Waitrose of all places] it certainly smelt odd even when roasted. I binned it on the bettert safe than soory principle

Point is, sometimes caution should over rule wallet [I mainly ignore use by dates etc]

    Should be fine.
Make sure that you bring liquid with the carcass in to a good rolling boil and keep it there for a full 5 minutes (timed) before simmering just to be on the safe side.

I would not dream using that chicken. It is the most dangerous meat when not stored correctly. In the middle of the winter you might get away with it but not at the moment with high nightime temperatures.

Is it worth £3 having food poisoning for a week?

  • Just wanted to tell you what happened to me three days ago. I took a frozen Mr S shoulder of lamb out of the freezer at 11pm and left it on the side to defrost. Big mistake! By 7am when I got up the smell hit me long before I got to the kitchen and when I opened it the shoulder was rank.
I won't make that mistake again. I will defrost slowly in the fridge. To make matters worse I had paid full price for it and mother-in-law was coming for lunch...so salad allround that day.

Just to let you know the outcome. Lamb smelt fine whilst cooking, and tasted delicious. Most importantly no ill effects at all for me or partner. (I think I caught it just in time though...)
