I bought one of the flavoured rostisserie chickens from Tesco on Friday, cooled it and put it in the fridge - and promptly forgot about it!

My question is, will it still be OK to eat?

I agree with most posters; they'll both be fine :D

As both threads have fallen from the front page of OS, I'll add them to the existing thread, to keep ideas together.

Just under 2 hours ago, I put a whole chicken in the Remoska. Hit the switch to cook the chicken. Stupidly forgot to hit the power switch to the outlet and didn't notice, so basically chicken has been sitting in a cold Remoska for about 2 hours. I just fixed the switch, so Remoska is on now, but I'm curious... has the raw chicken been out in room temperatures for too long and is now dangerous to eat?? Or will cooking it well kill off any bacteria that might have started growing in that time.....?

Cooking it should be ok, it's only been 2 hours, I bet the inside of the chicken is still quite cold. In a slow cooker it takes about that time to really start to cook so you shouldn't have a problem. As long as it's piping hot when you go to eat it you'll be fine. Enjoy!

Was the chicken at room-temperature or cold from the fridge when it went into the Remoska?

If it was cold from the fridge I'd cook it and eat it without a second thought and if it was at room-temperature I'd cook it and eat it with my fingers crossed.

It must be OK to eat: I remember eating chicken (rarely) as a child, we didn't have a fridge at home and the nearest butcher was a good hour's walk away. It was bought on a Saturday and roasted for Sunday lunch, so yonks later.

Personally I wouldn't think twice and would cook and eat it. Mmm, I fancy roast chicken now.

Thanks so much. Yes, we bought it yesterday, and it had been in the fridge since then. Brilliant - it's cooking and smells good. I guess the whole "poultry sitting out" makes me a bit edgy - nobody likes food poisoning. Although, I remember my mum taking food out of the freezer and leaving it to defrost on the countertop the whole day, and that was pretty much every day when we were growing up years ago. Never thought anything of it at the time, but would never do it now.
