Good advice as usual. There should be no problem adding the tomatoes later, as long as you ensure the meat is heated up to a temperature where any "unwanted visitors" are thoroughly cooked too.

Would the thought of sugar mice help, in view of your "delicate condition"?

Also, a tip for buying tinned tomatoes. If you are buying them for a specific dish where they are going to be chopped up, and ready chopped ones are cheaper, then get these, of course.

However, if you are buying them for the store cupboard, then get the whole ones. These can be chopped, if required. They can also be used whole, if required. It's difficult to stick chopped tomatoes back together again, if you need to use them whole.

A chopping tip: Pour out the juice and chop them up in the can: it's easier than chasing the slippery little so-and-so's around a pan.

  • Hi

Not sure if this is the correct place, but hopefully someone will guide me!

I have a leg of lamb & roast of beef in the freezer since Christmas, family were supposed to come to me, but weather decided otherwise.

As I will, hopefully, be driving to Ireland for this Christmas, would they be ok to take with me. Unlikely to be a heatwave (!), so they could thaw slowly in the boot of the car and be nicely ready by the time I get to my mums and we could then have last years Christmas!

I heard that you can freeze meat for as long as you like, however, it will lose quality and flavour over time, with different meats having different times before this starts to happen

Bought sealed pack kipper fillets with a 2-week date forgetting that I was going away for 5 days. Since I've been back they've just become a fixture in the fridge that I ignored. Looked at them today and saw the use by date was 27 June.

They're not that expensive so not a huge money loss but I just hate the waste of food.

I don't think I'll eat them. They're smoked and sealed which are both good, but they're fish which is bad.

    Would you eat them?

No but I wouldn't bin them altogether. I'd put them on the garage roof for the pigeons.
