    Hi Grumswifie,

Yes it will be fine to freeze, I do this sort of thing all the time.

The rule is don't refreeze meat in the same state so if you got the raw meat out of the freezer then cooked it it is fine to freeze it for another time. Esther

Thank you EstherH! Made the shepherds pie receipie from the economy gastromony book but did fancy what he made the 3rd day with the mix, served it in a hollowed out roll, much prefer it as a pie.

    Thanks again

You would not be on here asking 'oh it had a salty taste' if it was off. You probably would not have your sense of smell back properly for hours. It is literally, awful. The smell of gone off chicken honestly makes me gag.

    Hello,

Need a bit of foody help and advice :o

I bought a 1KG pack of mince yesterday with the plan to split it and freeze it, told OH to shove it in the fridge after emptying bags with him and that I'd sort it after tea. Any way I forgot and just spotted it, the date is for the 7th but wondered if it's ok to freeze? If I can I wont split it but make a massive something or other in the SC..... HELP PLEASE :o

    Thanks.

I was sent gone off chicken in my tesco delivery recently.. it had a green slimy sheen and when I opened the packaging I wanted my nose to fall off the smell was dreadful.

Prepacked raw meat does get itself a pong but that goes when it is aired a few minutes.. this infiltrates your brain and the rest of the house.

Believe me if it was off you would be in absolutely no doubt at all!!!!!!!

Just to confirm, the mince will be fine. It would only have been in fridge in shop anyway and you could have bought it with a yellow sticker on on the 7th and frozen it anyway. Esther

A lot of cheaper chicken (especially the frozen stuff) has 'added water' really to bump up the weight and therefore profits but they will say it's to make it juicier! They do this by bunging it in a machine a bit like a giant washing machine and tumble it round with salty water. It's even called tumbled chicken. The chicken soaks up the brine and it can end up with something like 20% added water. It gets a distinctive 'slimy' feel and I find it really nasty. I think this is all it was.

If it has date the 7th, what makes you think that freezing will make it go off?

Of course it will be absolutely fine. You can still freeze it on the 7th and it will be fine.
