Thanks everyone. Risotto is now included in next week's meal plan.If Plan A fails, remember there are 25 more letters0

I have the following, which were all opened at the end of October, still sat in my fridge.
Tub of Betty Crocker vanilla frosting
Tub of Better Crocker choc fudge frosting
Tub of dried prunes
All are well in date, but supposed to be used up within a few days of opening
I have just had a quick taste of the frostings and they taste ok, and the prunes look & smell ok. They will be safe to use won't they?0 -
I would use the frosting... the sugar is a perservative! We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I don't and I'm happy! Mortgage Free Wannabe :dance:Overpayments Made: £5400 - Interest Saved: £11,550 - Months Saved: 240

I would but then most of my stuff comes from Approved Foods & other short date out of date sites. I rarely buy any dried or canned food now that is in date.0

thanks ladies ...I was fairly sure it would be ok - if anything, I wasn't really sure about the prunes but they look fine0
-
The prunes will be rammed fulll of natural sugar so I'd say they would be fine too
I remember my granny preserving apples by carefully wrapping and storing them in a cardboard box in the back bedroom - they kept well into the following spring . . . I always see her in my minds eye when I walk past the bags of apples marked with best before dates in the supermarket . . . . I think its a marketing plot to keep us constantly buying 'fresh' food:heartpuls The best things in life aren't things :heartpuls

I honestly don't even look at the dates on things like rice or dried pasta. The packet we've been eating this week could say 1981 for all I know. So far we've survived.0
-
I don't pay attention to the dates on any dried goods at all. If there's no germ or oil in the seed/grain there's nothing in it to go rancid. Ten year-old rice or pasta if not kept somewhere airtight might taste a bit stale but I doubt any harm could come to it0

I didn't die.
Would have SO hated to have on my death certification "Cause of Death............ MISERLINESS!!
The chicken was a tiny wee bit dry but tasted fabulous. We had it last night for tea and there are absolutely no ill effects whatsoever.
I'm not, however, a convert to cooking frozen raw chicken (still spooked by it) but if I ever make the mistake again I know I'll be fine.
