I bought some lamb and it was in the fridge for 3 days too long.
(My mistake).
Do you think we can still use it?0 -
Not me, but each to their own
Open it, smell it, look at it, unless of course it walked out of the fridge on its own and run away
when you opened the door.
:rotfl::rotfl:make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Does it smell ok?
I have cooked all sorts of meats past the sell by and they have been fine.Just make sure it smells ok and you cook it well.0 -
rinse blood off it and pat dry - give it a good sniff and if its not whiffy its OK - if it is whiffy the smell will linger and even cooked it would not be appetisingJohn0

If it's been properly refrigerated since it was bought it should be absolutely fine.0
-
Give it a wash in vinegar if it looks or smells slightly.
I would use it but then I have a steel constitution.0 -
If it smells, and looks ok, wash with lemon juice (or similar), then cook thoroughly (not rare). Should be fine then.0

Hi davholla,
As we can't see or smell it we can't really give you good advice on an internet forum. If it was me, I would be dubious eating meat that was three days past it's use by date but I would still be inclined to open it, sniff it and then make the decision on whether or not it's worth the risk. With fish or meat, if in doubt, I offer a little to the cat and if she refuses it then I do too.
I'm afraid that no one can really tell you whether or not it's safe to eat so it's really up to you.
I'll add your thread to the Quick Questions on food safety / sell by / use by dates as your query may help others in the same postition decide what to do.

Hello everyone
Quick question please (apologies of wrong place but it won't last long):o
I put 2 big pieces of chicken kiev in the oven from frozen. It was on special, it's on the bone with lovely breadcrumbs around it. I had it in the over for about 15 mins before I had a flakey and remember it was frozen RAW chicken and I took it out.
It's not totally defrosted but partially. I'm so loathe to throw it out but I will if I'll die (or be awfully sick) if I eat it. I can't believe I got two great yellow stickers and I fluffed it at the last minute. Raging!
Anyone eaten cooked from frozen raw chicken and lived to tell the tale?Grocery Challenge M: £450/£425.08 A: £400/£.May -£400/£361 June £380/£230 (pages 18 & 27 explain)0 -
What does the packet say? I've had some that says cook from frozen, others say defrost first....working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0
