Of course the olive oil is still good: it's used as a preservative, after all. It takes quite a long time to go rancid and if it does there will be no absolutely no doubt about it.
  • Thx! I'm fairly new to this house keeping lark. I've lived here 3 years and mainly survived on ready meals, about time I learnt how to cook properly. My mum will be over the moon I know she'll be happy to teach me :)

Sniff test, then if thats ok, taste test ;)

Same for most foods - if it smells ok, and it tastes ok, then it more than likely IS ok :)
  • If your sunflower oil hasn't been opened it will be just fine. That stuff will keep for years unopened

It will be fine, the taste / texture may not be quite as manufacturer intended, but once in sausage rolls or whatever you will never know

  • I always keep raw meat for a year in the freezer and no ill effects. Chicken can go a bit tough but other than that no probs.

  • houmous - a large tub. It won't all be eaten within the two days of opening and 'do not freeze' is printed on the packaging. Is it harmful or inedible if frozen? Has anyone kept it, opened, for much longer than two days?
