We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I don't and I'm happy!

they should be fine (unless the tins themselves are damaged) tinned stuff keeps just about forever :)

Yes, they'll be fine to eat, if the tins are undamaged (as has been said.)

I think the can of pulses I have from two years before that will be fine....your's certainly would be if the tin is not dented.

My DH delights in telling me that they recently ate the contents of a tin that Scott took to the Antarctic, so I think your lentils will be fine:rotfl:

Thanks for all your replies, hubby thought they would be fine but it's always nice for other opinions. I will use them up soon :)

Just check when you open them if they look like normal. When my Mum got a new kitchen I cleared out her cupboards and I found that went out of date before they moved to that house which was before I was born (so about 17 years out of date) and to prove a point I opened them. Baked beans were fine but Strawberries in Syrup and Tinned ham were not. They were really mouldy and smelt though so I think you'd know straight away.

I've bought a chicken reduced cause of short date, goes OOD today. Come home and can't be doing with cooking tonight - will probably roast it tomorrow. Or would freezing tonight be safer?
