Oh LL I hope the smear goes Ok, I had my first one just before Christmas and should have told the nurse I'd had c-sections because she didnt use the smallest thingy, next time I'll make sure I tell her, she asked me during and said 'opps'.

MV that's good they are setting you up with something to be getting on with x

My sister had her baby, first thing this morning. She is still in hospital at the moment just waiting to see how the feeding goes. It's a girl 8lb 9, she was 10 days overdue so not too huge especially for my family, all our babies are big. I'm hoping to go see her tomorrow evening because I'm visiting a friend who lives nearby in the afternoon but not sure if she'll be ready for vistors or not.
  • Big congrats to you, your sister and family MERFE :)

Huge congrats to your sister MERFE. Hope you get some cuddles soon.

    That's a gorgeous pic MV. He's such a cutie :)

I know what you mean about feeling broody, too! I now have 2 friends who were pregnant at the same time as me last time who are pregnant with their second. And I'm sure at least a couple of my NCT group will be announcing another on the way before this year is out. It makes so much more sense for us to wait til the end of this year to start trying for number 2, but I really want to start now!!

  • I want to start trying now too BB, but I am going to be strong and hold out until at least August.

Our original plan (well, mine - DH would happily start now, but I think it would be a struggle), was to wait til Joe turns 2 as I'd ideally like a gap of around 3 years. But I'm tempted to start around my birthday in August too.

    evening all x

Saw my sister this afternoon so got some baby cuddles, DD and DS also got some cuddles and Bob loves babies so he had a good look but was so tired himself he slept through most the visit. Only 1 day old, makes you realise how quickly they change, she had such winkly old lady hands and feet where she hasnt plumped up yet. she was looking a little bit jaundice today but that's normal isnt it? I think it peaks around 4 days old when I had Bob and he was getting his tests that is what the midwife said. Mums staying with her till Monday and is back to work on Tuesday so she is going to see how she is doing and if she is doing well just leave her to it but if she is struggling she is going to pop in after work but she cant take any more time off. Its risky with my sister because she has epilepsy so if she gets too tired she is more likely to fit and things like bathing the baby and going up and down the stairs are more risky. She is on her own so is going to need help and support. The dad is one of her friends, he hasnt seen the baby yet because he is ill, will see how that goes.

Ladies you were on page 5:eek:!

Thought i would pop in and say hi. My DD is now 5weeks old, still can't believe i'm a mummy.

    Just after some advice

So DD had her first bottle yesterday and she took it. Have expressed again this morning and got 3oz-how much should they be having per feed.?

There aren't really any guidelines, just feed until they are full/asleep! You will get used to how much she takes but just watch out for growth spurts when they just spend a few days constantly feeding.

DD has been 'sleeping through the night' I've started to let her wake up in the night when she wants feeding last night she woke up at 4.45 for a feed but after i put her she really screamed so i did pick her up for a cuddle and put her down and she did it again but after i put her down she went back to sleep until 7.45.

The medical definition of sleeping through the night is 5 hours so don't worry if she does wake up, she is still really young. Some people do 'dream feeds' where they just lie down with LO and feed them without LO really waking up in order to get them through the night longer.

As shes been like this for three night should i now try more off a bed time routine? i usually give her a feed after 9 whenn we go to bed then nappy change and put in her swaddle blanket then bed but thinking off maybe giving her a last feed at 10 or 11 so could maybe go longer at night.

You can give her a bedtime routine if you want, it wont do any harm or if you're like me you can wait until LO starts setting her own routine which for us was at 5 months. Usual routines involve bath, feed, book, bed but I've learnt not to bath too often as it wasn't good for DD's skin. A routine doesn't have to be at a set time every day, go more by however many hours since tea or her last nap. Do you leave her in the swaddle blanket all night? I think there are some reports that it can effect their hips if you leave them swaddled too long.

Her evenings feeds are still a bit over the place as she had colic which is now better but she still unsettled in the evenings, plus shes starting to fight having a late afternoon nap, shes tired but doesn't go off to sleep no matter what we try, so she get a bit cranky and we have given her a dummy which does help her settle,so her feeds are a bit over the place asshe tends to have 5 mins here and there.

5 minutes is probably too short for a feed. Most babies are unsettled in the evening, they often like to 'tank up' between 6-10pm in order to go through the night and milk flow is slower in the evening so she may just finds that annoying. If you think it is that your milk flow is slow you can try leaning forward at the start of the feed and even compressing your breast when she is sucking (not when she is resting at the breast or swallowing). Other things you can try are going for a walk just before her fussy time, using soothing sound, baby massage, dim lights or nursing while walking. Also make sure she isn't gassy. She could also be reacting to some food you have eaten. I found lying on my back with DD on top of me, tummy to tummy, legs pointing the same way, to feed helped calm DD when she was fussy.
Can i do anything to help with DD noises at night? her noises have changed. hard to explain but it kind off sounds like she gulping something.
    Not sure about this!

    MV - he's gorgeous :D

Talking of smears, I had my done *is proud*. They were really traumatic for me pre pregnancy (had vaginismus), so was dead nervous, but I did it and it was fine. I think I'm officially cured. I guess having a baby kinda helped :$

  • Smear went well, LO sat on the floor and chatted all the way through.

He is finally feeling better, still hasn't eaten a meal, but today he has nibbled a few things and is very chatty and scooting about. Having his nap, although he has just started talking, so maybe a very short nap today, which is good. I am going stir crazy as a week at home with no adult company is tough, I don't have any friends locally, so I suppose i am glad that I work. But i have loved spending a whole week with my very gorgeous little man.

Right better go and get the wee man up. Have a great day ladies and babies (oh I am very broody and am hoping for some exciting news, but not holding my breath :) )
