Happy new weeks to you all.
Just giving us a little bump and want to say how much I'm loving being a mum at the moment. She has slept thru the night for three whole weeks, is learning new stuff in leaps and bounds, especially her understanding and communicating skills; pointing, understanding yes and no, simple instructions etc etc. And yesterday we had our first solo steps.
Sorry, hope I don't sound like one of those bragging mummies. I smell a poo, best be off ....It is great how quickly they seem to just pick things up out of the blue.
DDs latest achievements are finally being able to put her stacking cups inside eachother (with help as to which one fits next), she fetches me things, she seems to like to share as well, when she has milk, she pushes it to me and I have to pretend to drink some
On the negative side, we're having a sudden battle with food this week. She just won't eat anything at lunch and dinner except weetabix and yoghurt and biscuits! Not sure what's going on there. She's still sleeping through so she can't be hungry. I hope she's not coming down with the diawoowoo that I had
Just been reading the thread about HEalth Visitors. It fascinates me how different the service is across the UK.
Wendy/Wendz mentioned having to see one at 1 year old. We don't. I just got a letter with a list of things that a 1 year old should be doing with a note saying if you're worried to see the HV about it. DD can do all but 2 on the list, but I know of babies in my group that can't do a significant number of the things and I think no wonder mums panic when you're sent this achievement list.
Did any of you get the list? It also recommended I get DD weighed at the clinic, which I won't be doing.Baby Giz born 6/2/110 -
Sounds like all the Lo's are doing great!
Giz - hope the food problems go away soon. Poppy never seems to eat much and from 9 months to 10 months she has lost weight but they have told me not to worry.
I agree it is amazing how different things with hv's are! We have a 9-12 month check but they tend to do it at about a year at our surgery. That list does sound scary and must panic mums, not very helpful!
We had our first settling in session at nursery today. I stayed with her and she had a little play outside and then went in and sat at the table and had a snack and drink and then had another play and i let them know about her routine etc. I am leaving her for two hours thurs. I think she will be fine but can't help but feel sad about leaving her.0 -
Hello everyone x
MV have you started the new job yet?
I'm going to be a SAHM soon - scary. When the tax credit limits change so if you have more than 2 children and earn more than 32,200 a year you get nothing its not worth me working. OH earns £28000 and my contract has me getting £6000 but I pay out so much in petrol and then work every sunday whilst OH works every sat, we decided it just wasnt worth it. We are better off if I dont work so it doesnt make sense to work. Dont want to completely give up a job I like though so I've managed to convince them to keep me on a seasonal contract just have to do 10 weeks a year then, bits over Christmas, easter and during the summer hols but I could only do 1 day a week.
Giz how is the eating going?
Bob was really poorly with that gastro bug that is going round - I think he picked it up at a and e when we took him to check out a bump to the head that was fine. He was really off his food bless him, then would only eat fruit but is completely back to his old self again now.0 -
Merfe I am so jealous. I would love to be a SAHM. I have to admit working 3 days a week is quite ideal, it's lovely having 4 day weekends
Unfortunately my holiday is nearly used up so I've only got 2 more 3 day weeks and I'm back 5 days a week
And I'm still not pregnant
DD is eating again! It went on for about a week. She was living on weetabix and yoghurts. She's a weird child though, given a choice of her meal she eats the broccoli first (can't shovel it in quick enough)!
I can't get her to eat meat unless it's part of chicken soup, or chopped up and mixed up with rice (korma). If we have a roast dinner she only eats the veg, potatoes and yorkshire pud.
That gastro bug has been around here. Think I might have had something last week, had diawoowoo for 4 daysNot fun. Thankfully DD hasn't caught it. But my friends baby had it, poor thing.

Oh Merfe I am also so jealous. We are not entitled to any tax credits or other benefits, but if i stop work we would not get enough help, so i am currently still working full time and finding the balancing act quite hard. Hoping to get pg again and then hopefully we can re-think the work life balance.
LO is doing really well at nursery and eats better there than here, which makes me laugh. I can only assume that all of you are as busy as me as this page has been so very very quiet. Hope you are all ok and will see you on here again soon.Leopardlady
Got married on the 26th April 08!!!!!!!:j:T
Bumpy Bean was due 20th Nov 2010, born 15th Nov :j:j:T0 -
It was actually a little hard to leave, I only do 15 hours a week but it was hard to fit in family time because we dont use childcare just worked opposite shifts and its going to cost money to work rather than stay at home. I think I'm just not looking forward to the change and feeling out the loop but I will be able to start going to baby group every week again so that'll be nice.
They nearly always do eat better at nursery, who knows why x
Giz I think meat is a common one, I still trick Bob sometimes by cutting it up tiny and mixing it in with his mash potato lol He does tend to eat chicken no problem though. I caught his bug but just went off my food and then had some dodgy poos but he was being sick all over the place and exploding nappies - it was a bad week, scary for the first couple of days when he wasnt keeping much down and we were syringing 5ml water in every 20 mins but then he started to perk up a bit.0 -
My LO is the opposite, she's beginning to eat at nursery now, but for the first few weeks would go all day on fresh air - not even taking much milk. I think its just the different food they have there. She prefers her food with a bit of a kick (that's her Indian blood) and some of the nursery food is really quite bland.
Today was good, but there was chilli on the menu. She also done her first painting for me today - its rather Pollock-esque in style but shows distinct flair for colour. I shall treasure it forever. We Made-it-3 on 28/01/11 with birth of our gorgeous DD.0 -
Hello everyone!
Nice to see some activity on the thread again
MERFE - I have been working at home for my new job for the last 3 weeks. I start in the office on April 2nd, but at the moment they are making some redundancies in other parts of the business so I guess didn't think it was right to have a new person starting whilst others were potentially losing their jobs.
Working from home has been cool though. I have a number f projects to do, but as long as I come up with the goods, they are pretty happy for me to work under my own steam.
It sounds as if being a SAHM is the best thing for you and your family, how do you feel about it? I think spending time with LO's is so important..they grow up so quickly and you can never get those early pre-school years back again.
Giz - how is the TTC going? We are talking about going for it again in August. I do want a 2nd, but every now and then I think back to the early days and wonder what I am letting myself in for!Metranil dreams of becoming a neon,You don't even take him seriously,How am I going to get to heaven?,When I'm just balanced so precariously..0 -
On food: I am having constant battles with DS over eating at the moment too.
He used to be fantastic and would eat anything I spooned/put in front of him. Now he won't be spoon fed, and for the last few days has thrown anything I put in front of him on the floor. I've started dreading mealtimesI find them really stressful and frustrating, and to my shame a couple of times I've snapped a bit and shouted at him..not good. A surefire way to ensure he gets a complex about eating
