Hi all
Thought I'd pop my head in; Elizabeth Rose (Ellie) was born on 27th Sept after a rather traumatic labour and then ended up spending 5 days in SCBU. We're now 9 weeks in and getting used to living with each other I think!!
I'm exclusively bfing her which seems to be going well as she has gained 4lb on her birthweight. I express a bottle for the bedtime feed which DH gives her while I pump out the next evenings feed - she gets through about 6oz at that feed - about right for a 10.5lb 9 week old baby?
We put a bedtime routine in place about 3 weeks ago; nothing major - bathtime between 6:30-7 and bottle of BM at 7-7:30 then straight to bed. She settles herself down now and will sleep up until between 12-1 and then she's up between 3-4 and generally restless until 6. At these 2 night wake-ups she doesn't really take much nursing - perhaps 10 mins max and so am wondering if she just wants comfort - tonight am going to try offering a cuddle and her dummy instead.
We feed every 3 hours during the day and generally have a 1-2 hour nap 3 times a day so I think she's getting enough sleep.
Anyway, that's where we're at. I'm loving motherhood and am already dreading going back to work in 7 months!! Can't wait to start planning for the next one!

hey ddebski i remember you from the prfegnancy thread, you seem to have a really good routine in place, i wish baby would go to sleep at 7.30, this is his really restless time which carrries on until about 11!! but he's only tiny i'm sure he'll sort out his own routine soon.0

well done debs. our samuel hasnt got a routine as such, i really should get to grips with it but just havent got round to it yet. lol
he breastfeeds basically when he wants and goes down between 12 and 1 in the morning wakes up around 4 for a feed and goes back down till around 7.
between about 7 in the evening and when he goes down he can become quite whingy at times but he gets a lot of wind (from the bottom) so he has gripe water.
i think to be honest i will start a proper routine when hubby breaks from college on the 16th dec and then we can take turns if it oes pear shaped lol, and he wont be tired for college/work as we can chill during the day.now proud mum to 3 handsome boys :j latest one born 10/10/11:j0 -
congrats debski and welcome x Bob was never put into a particular routine - I probably started a bedtime one around 10/12 weeks so he had bath then going to bed around the same time every night. Then he has always napped loads during the day but no specific times.
Everyone is pregnant at the moment, my sister will be first, then one of my besties then one cousins having twins and just found out my other cousin is due in June - there are going to be so many baby cuddles next year I'm bound to get really broody, would love another baby already.0 -
The routine is good in that I get my evenings back, which helps me feel normal and that I can plan my day into slots inbetween feeds. It also helps me understand what she wants from me - i.e. if I fed her an hour or so ago, I know she's not hungry etc. It would be nice to get a bit more sleep at night but it is still early days!
Those of you that express - which pump do you have? I have a manual Nuby one and over 2 pumping sessions of about 30 mins each I can get 6oz out. Am considering buying the Medela Swing which is electric and am guessing it's more efficient?

I think Missymoo mentioned yesterday she can get about 3oz in 10 minutes with the Medela Swing, Deb

hey mirror your routine sounds exactly like mine!! although little one is whinging right now!

ddebski I do have the madela, although it took me 20mins to do 3ozs today, think its because I leaked a load of milk last night. but it is good and pain free, much better than my manual one.0 -
electric pump is sooooo much better than a manuel one, my nipples were still getting sore with the manuel one and it took a while as well, but the lectric one im done within about 5 mins, i only get around 4 oz, i just have the avent one, but am awaiting a new one out to trial from bizziebaby website, its a double pump (eek) but will be good for when i go back to work.now proud mum to 3 handsome boys :j latest one born 10/10/11:j0
