Yay, Susan, glad you're feeling well enough to post! Do you know when you see the MW yet? Any other interesting pregnancy news? How's Alice?
Since the booking appt was the only one last time where the midwife had time to discuss anything, I want to be well enough to be able to discuss everything I want to discuss with her (viz. my birth plan) so I haven't made it yet but if I'm still feeling reasonable next week I'll make it for two or three weeks time. I was meant to have it today because our over zealous receptionist booked it for me even though I told her not to when she phoned me up but fortunately the MW phoned OH up (no idea why she was using his mobile number) about it two weeks ago as you get a form beforehand to fill in so he asked her to cancel it. The MW seemed to think it's important to have the booking appt soon because of screening but as far as I'm aware the only thing which is time sensitive is the Down's syndrome screening which I wouldn't have anyway.

Alice is great. She is really helpful and really entertaining. The other day she said foots instead of feet which she doesn't normally do so I was trying to get her to think of the word feet. The conversation went like this:
    Me: One foot, two...
A: foot, three foot, four foot.
Me: What are on the end of your legs?
    A: Ankles.
She's really excited about the baby and is always talking about what she's going to share with the baby and how she's going to help look after it etc. She's planning to take it to the potty when it needs it and feed it bottles of expressed milk. She actually told me I need to get a pump so that she can do bottles! (Needless to say what we will let her do and what she intends to do are two different things.)

if you are still considering a homebirth you get an extended appointment at home at 36/37 weeks, which might also give more talking time :)

You get an appointment at home to discuss your birthplan as standard here (it's so that they know where your house is ready for post natal visits) but last time my MW went through my birthplan quickly okaying it all and then when I went into hospital the MW had issue with delayed cord cutting/clamping and got a doctor to come and debate it with me while I was in the middle of labour. I want to make sure it has all been discussed properly and that I know which things they are most likely to have issue with so that I can have supporting information available rather than having to debate it during labour.

That is so awesome, Becles!! She looks so grown up, great that she loves cooking :D.

I tried to donate blood today for the first time since Finn, but they couldn't do it because it had been over 2 years and the mobile unit didn't have the right papers with them. And they wonder why only 4% of people donate!

I'm not allowed to donate because I have (mild) ulcerative colitis. It doesn't affect me day to day and I have no idea why I'm not allowed to donate, ie because it would be detrimental to me or to anyone receiving my blood? If it's just because it would be detrimental to me then it seems silly to put a blanket ban on as in my circumstances I can't see it being a problem.

I went when I was 18 with a group of 6 friends. 2 were turned away because they were under weight, one panicked and pulled out last minute, and they found I was anaemic (undiagnosed UC at that point) so only 2 ended up giving it.

Becles - Charlotte looks so grown up, her hair is just gorgous too.

Good to see you Susan, glad you're feeling well enough to post a bit. You definitely been missed.

And I can't remember if I've said it or not but hello to the newbies :)

My little man pretty much scampered up the stairs at aquababies today  He's not encountered stairs before so I was very impressed! He started looking at them while I was putting my shoes on and then pulled himself to a standing position and put his knees on the next step up. He did this at super speed up the next 5 stairs (with me behind him!) before I lost my nerve and picked him up and brought him back down! My cousin has lent me a weighted babywalker but I'm not sure if I want him to use it, he's growing up way too fast as it is!!

I was supposed to be getting an early night tonight as I;ve been really tired all day but DH is at work and will be coming him midnightish. I just know he's going to wake me up when he comes in!

    Morning all!

Bit of a fly-by post amidst the morning chaos. Just wanted to say hi and that Alice is very cute. HV came by yesterday for our very-delayed 10 month development check. Finn did pretty well, really good in some bits and predictably behind in locomotor (i.e., walking!).

Oh no, SS, hope Miss Molly wasn't too traumatised from the mean boy and silly mother!

We put Daisy straight in her cot with no problems and only used the moses basket as a day time nap place in the first few weeks after my section so I didn't have to keep walking up the stairs. Have you tried putting in the basket something that smells of you? I used to put Daisy's nighttime sleepsuit down my top before bedtime!;) In fact I still do sometimes!!

Don't worry about the blood test... Daisy didn't feel a thing!

Well, I thought I'd report back to say that Sam slept in his moses last night from about 10pm until 1.30am, then from 2.30am (after his change and feed) until 5.30am - I feel almost human again! He's now had another feed, three changes (wee, post-feed poo, post-feed milk spit up all over his clothes!) and is fast asleep in the basket again in the living room :) Thank you to everyone for all the advice - I don't expect this behaviour to last but it's lovely for now.

Also, you were right about the blood test - he felt nothing, very brave boy :)

  • Morning peeps

I've been at work an hour already *yawn* I'm really hating work :( I hardly see DS now, his naps seem to always time for me coming home from work. Yesterday my mum had him and she'd put him down for a nap in the afternoon but 20 minutes later he was still awake so she got him up, so by the time I got him home he was knackered and he slept for 2 hours. 45 minutes up then off for his bath. And Sunday was supposed to be my fun full afternoon with him but after picking him up from mum's at lunchtime we had lunch there then when we got home he went to sleep at 4pm-ish and slept right through til Monday morning 9.30am  Well, I did go wake him at 8pm for a change and milk but he went right back to sleep. Maybe it's a massive growth spurt?

I just read back and have forgotten everything already lol It's too early for me.

Sorry for the long whiney post.

Hope everyone else is ok, :j yey for moses basket-sleeping babies, good injections, and kids cooking dinner and boo to d&v, not being able to give blood and babies growing up too fast.

    morning everyone

welcome to all the new mummies and babies.

forgetting what it was like to have a newborn :(

K is so independant at the moment, wants to do everything himself.

DH was putting his coat on to go to work before and K went over to his buggy, got his coat and brought it over to put it on. think he thought he was going as well lol!!!

    Morning all

    Welcome to new mummies :)

MERFE: I was going to try cranial osteopathy with T, I still havent got round to it! I just feel that my birth was so traumatic its bound to have affected him, especially as I didn't see him for a day after he was born.

Yay for babies sleeping in moses basket! We had the same problem and I was convinced T hated his, he soon got used to it and has missed it terribly since he outgrew it.

Just been sorting through T's clothes, we're now in 3-6 months clothes!! Still some 0-3 that fit (but few) so thats good, and we weighed him last night and he is 16lbs!!!

    :j for moses basket babies!

:( for not seeing a lot of a littlie and for them growing up so quickly.

    for escaping up stairs!

:grouphug: for Susan and :D for Alice.

*rollyeyes* for not being able to give blood. I am perma-banned in Germany for coming from England because of CJD and perma-banned in England for having had a partner who had (protected sex) with another man despite repeated and multiple negative HIV tests for us both over five years. I applaud their caution but find it excessive.
