Luckily, so far, Grandarents always ask if they can offer Joe something "bad" - and get told NO! Whether this continues when he's no longer seen as a baby remains to be seen...

He has his first proper day at nursery today :( DH sent a message to say he was dropped off OK and was so fascinated by everything that he didn't even notice him leave. I hope he's OK. I feel much worse about sending him to nursery than I did the first time he went to the CM :(

And he got his first pair of shoes yesterday  They are a 4G and look ENORMOUS! He's not overly keen on them, but I guess if we just keep putting them on for half an hour or so he'll get used to them. I wasn't going to bother with the "cruiser" shoes but he spends a good chunk of his time standing up and walking along furniture or with his vtech walker now, plus he's crawling so well that if we let him loose outside he's usually halfway across a field before you know it! So I thought they'd protect his feet a bit and break him in gently before he does start walking and needs something sturdier.

Hi everyone, I'm graduating from the preg thread. In 19 Aug I gave birth to a lovely little boy who weighed 8lb and he's called Alistair.

I'm hoping for some tips and advice (already!). Our LO will not settle unless either DH or I are holding him. This is 24 hours a day :-(. His screaming gets so manic that we can't leave him but equally we don't want to make a rod for our own backs. We've put a top from each of us in his basket, not sure what else to do? Any help would be gratefully received!

    TIA

I bet they are tiny compared to the men's size 10 ones I had to buy for Josh (aged 14). They are enormous :D

He just says "you know what they say about big feet" and winks and grins :o

Congratulations and lovely to meet you.

It's tough at first when they are like that. Does he settle if you put him down and soothe him by stroking and talking to him? You could try that and then gradually move away and see what happens.

Off to Gibside with my lot this morning. There's a new adventure castle play area and the Waybuloo house is visiting.

Have a good day all xx
Here I go again on my own....

Thanks Becles. I hope you enjoy your day out. Unfortunately he seems too astute to being conned!! As soon as he's put anywhere - chair, Moses etc he kicks off instantly. I guess we just have to keep going and hope he starts to come away from doing it over the next few months? I'm just worried when DH goes back to work as I'll want to let DH get some sleep!

Bigbird - hope Joes firs day at nursery goes OK, I am sure its much harder for you than him!

Hi Doglover! No advise really here as I am guilty of holding her for some of her naps still as she wakes up really soon in her cot, she is fine at night though. It does get easier though with them wanting to be held. They start to notice everything around them and can entertain themselves for a lot longer. Your LO is very new to the world and is used to being all warm and cosy and is prob a shock to be put down. Hopefully someone will have some good advise for you.

Thanks Wendz. I keep going back to thinking he's only tiny, 16 days old. It's hard this parenting business!! I just want to do the right thing for my LO and my OH. My wonderful DH is doing most of the night!

Hi Doglover. Congratulations and welcome to you and Alistair. Do you have a sling? It would at least leave your hands free to have a drink or something to eat, whilst still letting LO have the cuddles he wants. Not sure what you could do at night though, sorry. He is still tiny though, so it should ease off as he gets more interested in what's going on around him.

Becles, LOL at Josh :rotfl: I'm nearly 6' and take a size 9 :o (I was in an 8 by the time I was Josh's age) Joe seems to be taking after my side of the family where height is concerned so I'm sure we'll also be buying enormous great shoes for him in a few years.

Thank you BigBird - I haven't got a sling, so thanks for suggesting it. It'll be nice to have a drink or dinner whilst it's still even slightly warm!

This parenting malarky is indeed hard, I keep thinking I wish I had done this or that but you do what is best for you at the time.

We went through the stage of having to take turns at eating but it doesn't last too long, seems ages ago to me now! seems like forever at the time though.
