Morning all. I'm a bit late to the CM/Nursery discussion, but thought I'd put in my views.
Joe's CM is lovely and he really enjoys going to her. She was a nanny before becoming a childminder. The lady she worked for had another baby and decided to be a SAHM, so CM decided to be a CM as it allowed her to be at home with her own children too. So yes, her motivation is partly being at home for her own children, but working with children is her choice of career.
The CM also believes children should be out in the fresh air as much as possible. She goes out for picnics most days when the weather is good, goes to the seaside, local forest, petting farm etc. She lets Joe out to explore so he's not stuck in a buggy the whole time - before we started taking him to her, she warned us that he would get grubby as she'd be letting him explore her garden and other places. That's fine with me! When he comes home wearing his "spare" clothes and with his others wet and/or grubby in his bag, I take that as a sign that he's had a fun day
I also don't see a problem with Joe going on the school run with her. Plenty of children with older siblings have to do it, even if they have a SAHM. I know he's not going to be stuck in the buggy all day and he tends to have his naps on the school run.
Likewise, I don't see a problem with Joe becoming attached to his CM. As long as he's happy and feels secure with her, I'm happy he has a good relationship with her. My sister's 3 boys all went to the same CM (not my CM, but the same for all 3 of them) and had a great relationship with her. They are all grown up now, but they still keep in touch with Auntie Mannie
Joe will be going to nursery one day a week from September as the CM won't be working on a Monday (that'll be the day when she gets her housework and shopping done). I'm fine with him going to the nursery, the staff there are lovely and we obviously don't have issues like sickness and holidays that we do with the CM. However he will spend the majority of his day in one room. They do have a good amount of outdoor space, but this is used on a rota basis so even on a nice day there will be a limit to the amount of time he can spend outside. Given the choice, I'd rather he went to the CM or to his Grandparents (who currently have him on Tuesdays), but that's not feasible so nursery it is.
OK, I'll stop waffling about childcare now.
Grrr, very annoying about the beds delain. I hope the uniform quest goes smoothly.
Yay for smiles supermaiden :T
Joe is learning to waveAnd climb
His feet are now flat on the floor when he's in his Jumperoo so that's going to have to be packed awayWe put a load of stuff in the loft at the weekend, my little man is growing up so fast.

Bigbird I think that's lovely they keep in touch with the CM. I'll have to tell the one here about that
I know she likes Squeak. She has asked me to keep her in mind if I want to go back to work, she'll like hearing that story though!

Bigbird - your childminder sounds fab, I need to find one like that. I am vearing more towards a childminder at the moment but will go see nurserys and childminders and decide.
I am going to put my request in to work to work 4 days a week and start half hour earlier and finish half hour earlier. Really hope they will let me do it. Once I know what i am doing i can start to look at childcare options. Is ages till i am going back but want to get sorted.0 -
We've just forked out for a new pushchair for LO as the last few weeks we were having pram tantrums and I assumed she was fed up of lying down and wanted a better view of the world. All we've done is turn pram tantrums into pushchair ones. She is fine if I take her out in the sling, but within about 15 minutes of being in the pushchair she is screaming blue murder. It's very stressful as everyone looks at you thinking you have beaten or starved your child and its beginning to feel like I can't go out.
Any tips or advice on what I can do? She has her hoopy loopy monkey and I've ordered a couple of new toys. You'd think she'd be distracted by the sights and sounds around her too.We Made-it-3 on 28/01/11 with birth of our gorgeous DD.0 -

It's a bit grey here, had put shorts on L but may have to change to trousers! We're going to a friend from churches house for coffee and a play and then to sir m's for play and lunchlife is so hard!! I'm going to set off soon and hope L will go off to sleep on the way, may have to drive around a bit. Need some more formula too not that he drinks more than an oz at a time but he seems to have dropped to just one side for his morning bf now
