Hi all, just wondering if anyone has any advice for me. My little one is great in the day, sleeps similar nap time as gina ford (But a bit less) so not getting too much sleep. At 8ish I try and put her down for the night but she wakes up 30 mins later yhinking it was just a nap she was meant to have. There is no way I can get her back to sleep. She is 5.5months old. She is up loads (6-7 times) and feeds loads in the night. What am I doing wrong!!?? x

Those of you with older ones, at what age do you start doing no tolerance with picky eating?

    Zero tolerance!

Everyone gets the same food on the table. If they don't eat a reasonable amount, then there's nothing else. I don't make a fuss about it and encourage them to eat it, and just take the food away when the meal ends.

It's worked well and they're all pretty good eaters with just a couple of genuine food dislikes which is fair enough.

Busy day yesterday. Got in from work just before 3pm to find the washer had leaked on the utility room floor. Got that mopped up and then had go and get Charlotte. Dogs needed walking so we took them out for a long walk.

Came back and cooked tea and had that.

Was ironing the bed linen when the phone rang and it was a boiler quote man to say he was on his way. It's part of a project for work and I forgot he was coming. Had a quick tidy round.

Boiler man came and went and was in the garden playing with Charlotte before she went in the shower. Came in to shower her and the kitchen was flooded with water pouring through the ceiling. Turned the water off and discovered one of the pipes in the bathroom had burst. Bathroom was flooded and the landing carpet was wet.

Fixed pipe and Charlotte was over tired so Josh offered to shower her and get her ready for bed while I mopped up all the water.

Finally got her into bed and had stories, then finished ironing the bed linen and put it back on my bed. Had a shower and washed my hair.

Started typing up yesterdays reports, but it was late and I was tired, so I didn't get them all finished so I'll have to do them this morning.

    Hope today goes better!

Not got so much work on today and it's Charlotte's sports day this afternoon so I'm hoping the rain goes away for that.

Have a good day all xx

OMG Becles I'd have just dissolved into a teary mess if all that happened to me. And I wouldn't have bothered ironing either :rotfl:

I sincerely hope today is better for you xxx

Well it's raining again. Had a bad day yesterday as well with my older 3, twins kicked off when I said no when their friend tried to give them popping candy, apparently it's because I'm the meanest mum ever, not because it would make them go mental. Anyway I ended up getting kicked and slapped :( I did hold strong and get there in the end but it was hard work and everyone on the bus was staring :(

Oh and then DD1 came downstairs smelling stroongly of my perfume, I told her go get it, and she had sprayed over half a bottle of it on herself and the bathroom  I was livid as it was a Christmas present because at £50 a bottle I can't afford to buy it :(

Oooh Delain I'd be livid too.. I'd have her 'working off her debt' .. £50 for a new bottle should get you 100 hours of child labour.. get on it!!! (no minimum wage for miscreants!) .. I get mine from cheapperfumes .. they are really good prices usually and never had an issue. I also buy 3 or 4 at a time! And you can't be the meanest mum ever that is me!

Becles.... just hugs... I'd say it never rains but a burst pipe is probably worse than the rain! Hope it all dries quickly. I hate wet carpets.. eeewww *shudder* soggy socks!

Aless... day one!!! Eat it or starve.. though until they are about 18 months if they don't eat dinner I do give them weetabix/porridge before bed... because I don't want waking up when they are hungry.. but no dinner = no dessert.

Well, the beasts learned from yesterday's behaviour and while they got up a little early it was hardly surprising after I put them to bed at 5:30 last night and they were all ready for school and sat watching Shrek when I got up this morning. I don't think they liked doing lots of tidying and cleaning and being told off lots.. heehee...

Waiting on 2 calls today... 1 from the window place and 1 from the decorator.. I WILL have this house warm and draught free come winter! I have 3 windows I need replacing desperately, though it depends on the price of the bay as to whether I have that done or a different one and next year I will be saving up for the 3 bedroom windows doing and the bathroom and loo.. these last 2 are tiny so it shouldn't be too expensive... but I won't have a baby to buy for or any rooms left to fully decorate (though I might do the front room as it needs a new carpet! ;))

    Hello,
I've been following this thread pretty much religiously but only once contributed before. I hope that doesn't disqualify me from getting your advice :o?

My little is now 5 months, have been giving her baby rice for breakfast for the past 2 weeks. Really because the milk was not enough at all, she's started to put on weight again, smashing :T

Now, how much of the baby rice is too much/ too little? Every morning you could fill one of those little baby food jar they sell to the brim with baby rice and she eats it all, I'm sure she'd eat more if I was to gave her more.
The stuff I got from the health visitor talks about giving from 1-2 teaspoons worth and increasing to 4-5 teaspoons worth. That's probably half of what she takes :D

On top of her rice she takes (and drains!) 5 bottles of 7 oz everyday.

I know, I should go with what I feel is right i.e. give her more baby rice since she likes having it.
I guess I need some reassurance that it's ok to give her what looks like a child portion of food

Hi Flo, my little boy was like that, we aited til he was 6 months but looking back I think he was absolutely starving!! I can remember turning up to my fiends house and she said "he's not going to eat all of that!!" i hadn't realised up til then it was a big portion. I had no problem giving quite big portions of healthy food. He is now 2.5 and stil eats well and big portions. He's under the 50th centile on the chart.
My DD is 5.5 months but is different, just taking a few teaspoons. I think you are right and just go with what feel s right and maybe chat to HV next time you see her.

Delain - Charlotte pinches my perfume. She's had it drummed into her that she has to ask first, but she still has a sneaky squirt sometimes!

Flower - I would just go with the flow, and let baby decide how much she wants to eat. Baby rice is pretty bland. You could try some fruit or veg or baby cereal to see how she gets on with that as she might find it more filling.

Nursery sports day is cancelled due to the weather - booo!

Becles if it was just a squirt I would have just told her to ask me in future... but half a bottle?! The bathroom smelt of it so strongly it made me gag :(

    Boo to cancelled sportsday.

I agree flower and would also suggest introducing other foods too, hopefully that will settle it down. As I've said before my DD1 has always been a ganet and isn't overweight even now.

YES go with your instinct. I found they progress VERY quickly from the teaspoon measurements to having decent sized bowfuls.

Have you tried weetabix or ready brek, she may find it more filling than babyrice (which is a bit yuk):D
Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot,
Nothing is going to get better. It's not.

    Thanks everyone.
I will just do what you all said. Give her what she wants and spice things up with fruits and vegs.
And you're so right on the blandness/ yukiness of baby rice. I tasted the baby rice mixed with formula and I thought it is a bit boring although not quite as bad as I imagined :p
I should know by now that recommendations are just that, and my wee daughter has not yet read the reports from WHO, nhs and co so doesn't quite follow their assumptions and guidelines :D

I need to take all the info on babies with a pinch of salt or just takes what suits us and forget what doesn't suit me or baby

Thanks for reassuring me that all is normal at the Flo Familly House :j
