What in the way of bowls etc do I need for BLW? I've got spoons already (gifts). Got a doidy cup and a normal plastic beaker.
How many bowls would you say I need? Should I get the ones that have suckers on the bottom or not?Baby Giz born 6/2/110 -
i didn't use bowls for weaning.. i just put it on the tray of the highchair.. otherwise the plate and food was thrown on the floor immediately. Squeak currently has 4 bowls.. though we only usually use 3 a day.. 1 for each meal! and dinner she has just on the tray... or i'll put it on a sandwich plate and pass her a few bits at a time.
Rach.. I think dh needs to realise he is jointly responsible for L and he is a little person not a fashion accessory... he needs a very sharp wake up call .. and using the feeding as an excuse is what the all try.. it gets very dull very quickly! OH sometimes brings Squeak down for breakfast after boob.. and he has her a couple of hours on a Friday mornign when i have my nails done.. I think you need to start leaving him with L more often.. it may be he is scared of looking after L or he may just be thinking it is 'womens work' either way some daddy time will do the 3 of you good!! Thanks for the advice Pigpen
Rach - thanks so much, makes me feel a lot better. I must admit i do love the cuddles.
Funny thing is my Dad said when i was on the phone to my mum you can never be too soft bless him. He is not an emotional person so is nice to hear that.
Also how annoying of your OH Rach, my OH always passes LO back to me as i am bfing...not an exscuse she is not always hungry.0 -

We just had the melamine ones with Thomas the Tank, Bob the Builder etc., printed in.
Warning: don't put melamine in the microwave as it goes burning hot in seconds.
When they were eating runny stuff like custard with a spoon, I found weaning bowls like these useful as they could grip the handle better than holding the bowl still:

Love your posts PP, brutal honesty but so so true! Yes why can't she have an hour and a half to herself.
No equipment for blw, giz just a highchair really that you put stuff on. They will try to chuck bowls/plates etc and be more interested in eating them. Also if you are bf don't need any other drinks really.
Thanks Aless re naps, he went to bed at 6ish last night woke just before 5 for a feed, thought had settle but wanted more feed then went through till 8!! Can't seem to extend naps though has anyone tried anything that works just about to go and jiggle him in 5 mins as is a one cycle sleeper in day and can't get through to another!
Wendz my DH used to be like that, any crying = hunger!!Thomas born 28/08/2010 weighing 5lbs and 4ounces, small but perfectly formed :j:j Now weighs 19lbs and 5 ounces

Morning everyone.
Rach your DH needs to realise that you can't be held responsible for you LO sleeping/waking pattern. Babies seem to do what they want and it isn't your fault when he wakes. You deserve some time to yourself.
I sat up and watched a film with DH last night (Hot Rod - very funny) and went to bed at midnight. I must have disturbed LO when I was in the bathroom, as when I got into our room she was on her hands and knees in the cot looking at me smiling. I tried to get her to go back to sleep and she totally chucked a wobbly. She cried until 2.30am. I took her into bed with me, back into cot, fed her, but nothing soothed her. Gave her a spoonful of Calpol, she dozed for 5 mins then woke up crying again.
DH took her this morning at 7.30 after I fed her and I lay on. He brought her into our bed for her morning nap at 10am and we all slept until 12. I have no idea what was wrong with her last night other than she didn't want to be forced to go back to sleep.0 -
What a nightmare CL- at least she seems OK this morning.
Poppy seems to have suddenly gained more strength in her neck last couple of days and has started slinging her head back when I am holding her lol.0 -
CL - i remember the odd night like that with L, i think if they get woken sometimes they're just wide awake!
Thanks ladies, he is looking after L tomorrow aft as I have a meeting for my freelance work. me and sir m also have plans to go out for a curry or similar and leave the daddies babysitting.
giz, no equipment here either, though i do have a set of bowls and couple of plates some of which were given to us as presents. I occasionally use the bowls to put his cereal in but i still put the stuff directly on the high chair. we do use spoons for his fromage frais..i give him a preloaded spoon, was messy at first but he's good with it now. the things i've found most useful have been little tommee tippee pots which are 3 for £1ish i take a bit of fruit or pasta or few rice cakes out and about and find if i cook a few days of pasta at once each one holds about a portion. we also use the tommy tippee freeflow cup with a flip lid, occasionally a doidy cup but the tt is useful for taking out. I offer him water once he's had a fair bit of food and also occasionally in the day.
aless, that's helpful re naps, L goes to bed at 7 but i've been wondering about making it slightly earlier at least til he catches up a bit. we were doing so well with 7-7 but now seem to be 7-5.30and yesterday he only had total of an hours naps which of course led to waking in the night and then waking early. He has a nap about 9 and about 12-1ish depending on how long the morning nap was, often he'll only have half an hour. It also seems to take him about 30 mins from being put in the cot to dropping off in the day, not crying, just chatting and moving round the cot. at night he goes off pretty much instantly usually.
speaking of which he seems to have finally dropped off now, fingers crossed for more than the half hour afternoon nap we got yesterday.Mum to gorgeous baby boy born Sept 2010:j0 -
