digitalphase wrote: »Hi ladies, hope you can help. Alex seems to have colic
Especially in evening, he will scream and I can't settle him for a while. He also has episodes through the day, but can normally be calmed down by offering boob or dummy. He goes red in the face, clenches his fists, kick boxes and just generally looks in pain
He gets really angry.
I waited in doctors for over an hour yesterday at their pool surgery, then was seen by the worse doctor in the history of doctors. Just gave me a print out on colic, recommended I keep on with the Infacol, and squeezed Alex's abdomen to check there was nothing sinister (obviously this bit had to be done and I am glad he did it). But I then ended up with a screaming baby who needed to be changed and was hungry. It had taken ages for him to settle in the afternoon, kept going back on and off boob and grizzling in between. So the wait in the doctors threw our timing right out. Thankfully he calmed down in the car on the way home and was fine when I got him out, then fed him.
He tends to grizzle a lot after a feed during the day/evening. Will usually be OK at night/early morning. A dummy calms him down but then he sometimes spits it out. A lot of the time he will go on boob and fall asleep.
Just looking for any advice/tips please from mothers who have had or have colicky babies themselves
Oh I'll just add he is 3 weeks on Friday and is breast fed exclusively.
hey, the good news is colic shouldn't last too long (although i know it seems ages at the time). Elliot had colic for about a month, and infacol seemed to help him. It can be trial and error with different brands though so see what suits your baby.

Sorry Digital, don't know much about colic.
I hope everyone is doing well.
My LO has been doing what sounds like a "fake cough" non-stop for the last 24 hours. Has she just discovered this makes a noise, or should I be worried that it is an actual cough?0 -
She's discovered she can make the noise
Lotties been doing it too but we know its fake coz she does it and then looks around the room to see if anyones paying attention!! The little $0d has worked out that the inlaws will give her the most attention, apparently she was doing it all day yesterday:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Charlotte had colic. We tried one brand first but I can't remember which one, then tried Infacol and that worked for us.
I also used to massage her tummy. If you "walk" your fingers firmly around their tummies you can feel the little bubbles of air sort of popping and joining together to make big bubbles that can be pumped or burped!
Charlotte has a fake cry for attention seeking. She'll ask for something and I'll say "two minutes while I finish this" or something, and she'll do a fake cry to try and get immediate attention, but I just tell her to stop being sillyHere I go again on my own....0 -
Our LO has a blocked nose and is choking in her sleep because the dummy in her mouth is making it difficult to breathe:(0

Bigbird, it's hard not to worry about how much baby is eating sometimes, but they do let you know if they're still hungry. There's a saying that food before one is just for fun, so it's mainly about getting used to the whole experience, new textures etc. So long as little man is growing, peeing and pooping, he's doing ok
I can't rave about BLW enough, although be prepared for a bit of gagging at first. There's loads of fab resorces online about BLW, as well as a facebook group if you're on there, which is nice to chat and share ideas, escpecially if you don't know anyone IRL who does it.

Morning
Thought its time I finally graduate to this thread as Eloise is over 5 weeks old now!
Digi- I feel your pain, El has had colic from 2 weeks, it started with constipation (solid poos every 2/3 days, lots of straining, painful crying every night). Saw the HV who suggested switching to c&g comfort and Infacol. The comfort food seems to have resolved the constipation problem, the infacol worked for a bit but now it seems to be making her sicky (sometimes she just milks up, other times its alot thicker), bringing up alot of her feed every time she burped.
Last night I tried to switch to Dentinox in the hope that it would make her less sicky and maybe more settled. My experiment didn't go so well as the cat broke into the room last night and woke her up .
I've got to be honest, I'm really struggling with this, when I do finally calm her down at night, it takes me 5/6 attempts to put her down ,when its getting to 1am and you've been trying for the last 5 hours this is incredibly frustrating! Are all babies so restless?
Sorry rambling now, after a 3rd night in a row of just getting 4 hours sleep I'm starting to talk alot of cr*p
On a side note, when are babies supposed to start smiling? LO has been smiling alot more over the last few days (typically she stops as soon as I get the camera out!) but I thought it was around the 3 month mark that this started? She had the 'wind' smiles before (just mouth though), but now its her whole face smiling if that makes sense?
Nice to see some familiar 'faces' on herexx

Hi Bellabear!
My LO just was wide awake from 7pm to 1-2am for the first 6 weeks, then it started to get earlier bit by bit when she ws ready to go down. After a few days I gave up trying to get her to bed earlier and just put her in her bouncer while I watched TV until she fell asleep herself. It was more tiring for me fighting with her than it was to just let her do her own thing. She was happy as larry in her bouncer looking around her.
She definitely was smiling to silly faces/raspberries by 6 weeks. She was 11 days overdue, like yours, so I think that has something to do with it. By 6 weeks she was batting her toys hanging from the arch on her bouncer (the HV watched her and said it was quite early).0 -
Hey CL!
I might give that a try tonight then, I've been quite conscious not to get stressed out by this when I've got her as I know it'll make matters worse, but letting her chill out by herself for a bit might help. Did you find she was sleeping in the day alot? I'm trying to get her into some kind of routine (nothing too strict, just start the bedtime process between 7-8pm) but its hard when the evenings are like this!
Ooh thats a good point about them being overdue, everyone comments on how aware she is for her age and how good her head control is (from a few days old she was lifting her head up and doing almost mini pressups on my chest lol) and she has started hitting the toys on her bouncer (but I never see this so don't know if its by accident or not lol). How old is your LO now?xx£2000/£9000=22.2%0
