you're doing a great job digital :) well done x

right i am going to bed (to read another baby sleep book lol)

I am currently doing some self employed consultancy from home and the aim is to get that up to 2.5-3 days a week and get 2 days childcare. I'd be earning as much as in my old job full time as it's a daily rate, though less secure of course!

Good to see you keely xx

digital - I would ring for advice on registering the birth. Where we live, the registrars only come to the civic centre in our nearest town on certain days of the week as they're based in Durham city centre. You have to ring and make an appointment.

When we registered Charlotte, the computer system was down, so she got a hand written certificate and a printed one followed in the post. The registrar said it was rare to get a hand written one these days.

You're doing really well with the breastfeeding. Keep doing what you are doing

Quiet day here. Visited grandparents this morning, the just pottered around for the rest of the day.

Charlotte was playing out earlier, and I looked out the window to check on her. They were on the field round the back, and she was playing football in a Sleeping Beauty princess dress :rotfl:

I don't know Giz..I've tended to base my nursery choices on personal recommendation and my own personal feeling of the place when I have been there.

Obviously ofsted reports are important, but I also think you need to be happy with what you see there too.

I don't know anyone with young children so going to have to go on my own instinct then.

    Thanks Giz :A

We picked the nursery for DD#1 on the basis that it felt like a home as opposed to a sterile hospital if that makes any sense? I went on my gut feeling I did that same for play school & school also. You are the ones that knows your child the best no ofsted report can know what is best for your child. - Just my 2p worth :D
Thanks...I have to say I am put off by a couple already because they seem so big and school like. I liked the look of the one near my work (I can see the building and outside play area from my desk!) It is quite new though so maybe they had some teething problems. I must not go for convenience though. It's probably only going to be 2 half days a week if they let you sign up for as little as that.
Forgive me for sounding really dim, but those of you talking about nurseries has got me thinking. I intend to work from home once Alexander is a bit older, and was thinking a day nursery for a few hours a day may be good for him to get to socialise with other kiddies. I didn't think I'd need to start thinking about that for a while at least, but do nurseries really have such long waiting lists? Or do you all live in big cities? We live in the country, so may be different.
When do you need to put their name down for a place?

Also, with regards to registering the birth, how do I go about it? Do I need to book an appointment? We need a little while longer as not decided on his middle name yet :o

Alex has been feeding sooo much today. General consensus seems to be he is feeding to up my supply - my milk has definitely come in now as when he came off tonight some milk dripped down. Bloody Mothercare have got my nursing bra size wrong and it makes it awkward when feeding. I was a 34C before, 36D maternity bra and they told me I needed a 40C nursing bra. I did question it at the time but she was sure she was right.
Anyone got any recommendations of where to get a good nursing bra fitting? I'm annoyed as the bras weren't cheap either.
These are all the same questions I am having about nurseries. Don't worry about it yet...I'm just starting to think about it now I have more time on my hands (DD is 14 weeks). I have emailed a nursery to ask if they have waiting lists. I don't live in a big city, but not in the country either.

We had to book an appointment for registering the birth.

I got measured at M&S and had the exact same problem as you. Got measured at 38 weeks for a nursing bra and when my milk came in it was way too small. Ended up spending more money having to get bigger bras.

My nursery I had to pay £25 to put Erin's name down on a waiting list a year before she was to due to start! But we do live in London. I had no idea about nurseries before but a new one opened on our road a year before Erin was born and having been given a tour during a street party we knew straight away we wanted Erin go to there - it was all just so lovely and everything perfectly tailored for babies. We have food and nappies included in the price, I can't believe my sister has to make sandwiches every day for her son, I couldn't be doing with that, Erin eats better food at nursery than I do!

On the sleeping discussions I wanted to add my view just to show the other side. I think that babies, or at least Erin, have to be 'parented' to sleep rather than taught how to sleep themselves and that waking in the night is normal and that she will eventually grow out of it without any help from me (unless it becomes routine ie. waking up at the same time every night in which case it may need work). But we are co-sleeping and breastfeeding which makes this option much easier also I only have 1 so far! Erin may wake several times a night or not at all but I don't always know as I can feed her without really waking up. Whenever I notice she is waking up a lot it usually turns out she is ill or teething and only lasts a few nights. I also took her lead on bedtime, until 4 months she just stayed with me all evening until we went to bed then she started falling asleep at 10pm so I started putting her in bed then and gradually it has come forward to 8:30 which is late but suits us as OH often works late shifts so they don't get up until 9am. I never had a routine and Erin has always been very flexible. At 18 months she likes a nap at 12 which can last upto 3 hours but like today she is fine if she doesn't get much sleep. For anyone who is interested I really like this website which reviews the latest scientific research on parenting and in my opinion is really well written - it has some gentle sleep training programs but only for babies over 6 months. http://www.parentingscience.com/infant-sleep-problems.html

    Morning

It is a shame it's so quiet on here. It was such a busy thread before and I miss the chat :(

Woke up to an email with my final bill from EDF for £340  They've underestimated the monthly payments I should have been making and because I've left, it's all caught up with me. Car insurance is due next week and have got other bills to pay, so that was the last thing I needed.

Lost my temper with the boys as they were fighting again this morning and have got some crappy jobs to do for work that I don't really want to do.

    Proper Monday morning blues :(

Hope everyone has a better day xx

    I miss it too :(

I was hoping my son would be ready to start potty training soon, but he won't even let me put pants on him at the moment. He likes looking at his new thomas the tank engine pants, and plays with his potty etc but if i take his nappy off-put the pants on he gets so upset with me! He holds his bits saying 'nnoooooooo!' to me and points to where the nappies are kept.

I know boys can take longer then girls to potty train, but it's frustrating. Oh well, i won't make a big deal out of it as he obviously isn't ready yet and just gets upset.

    Any advice though please?

    keely.

it is rainy and glum outside today..

School had a leak so I have DD5 home for the day.. :( ... stupid as there are 2 classes and the nursery off.. but they could easily accomodate them in the other block..

Someone glugged all the milk so I have to go out in the rain to get more.. I also have to post a parcel and might as well grab sausage rolls for lunch while I am out.. I can't even be bothered to ask OH and have him ignore me so i'll just do it myself like the little red hen.. with a painful back and a broken pelvis!

Squeak pooped yesterdays courgette and carrot into her pj trousers.. BLEURGH!!!.. OH ignored her despite me specifically asking him to change her as it needed to be done on the floor and it realy hurts me being down there.. and getting up is a killer.. so my back is agony as muggins here ended up doing it...

I can't find my painkillers.. they are in the bag I took this weekend which I can't pick up a my back hurts.

the roofer that was supposed to be coming Thursday has asked if they can do the 2nd June instead.. I have to get that room decorated before the summer holiday.. and it all need replastering.. so I'll have 6 weeks before the holidays.. to get the plastering done and dried, papered and painted and carpetted.

I am pretty much on the verge of blubbering like a total moron and it isn't even 10am... what a fantastic start to the week!!!

Very sorry to hear that everyone has the monday morning blues :(

Today was not actually that bad thanks to OH organising me yesterday. He did loads round the house which was nice because I really haven't been coping too well with it, what with feeling so sick then so tired :(

My older girls went to see their KH over the weekend resulting in DD1 acting out hugely beforehand. We have court this week and I'm seriously hoping that it gets knocked on the head, because even though it's 'supervised' they don't actually stop him from filling her head with carp, just write it down  and whats even worse is that it sounds like the other 2 get ignored altogether :(

On a more positive note, Squeak can now wave and clap her hands :D

Becles that's terrible! they shouldn't be allowed to estimate payments like that.

PP he needs a kick up the bum (from someone who's not broken - maybe ask DS1?!)

Keely I can't help with potty training boys, never had one, although he doesn't sound ready from what you said about grabbing his bits and saying no.

    Tinks, yaay good news :D

Re sleep, Squeak gets woken early by the light and then comes and cuddles up with daddy and they go back to sleep. Before 7 she is Daddy's. lol. I turn into an inhuman monster if I miss my sleep :o It is unusual for her to wake up in the night unless she has been unwell, or off her food and then woken up hungry.

I do put her to bed on her own, but I go and get her if she doesn't settle, and she seems to be ok with that, as long as she has ghostie. I think I'm going to have to buy another one for when this one is chewed into non existence :rotfl: it looks more and more like dog toy every day :o

i just stropped on his head.. he asked where Squeaks beaker was.. 'how the f** should i know but i suppose you want me to get that for you too!'.. He moved!

Squeak is bum shuffling a bit faster now.. she found herself a beady bracelet which she is tring to eat.. she is fed.. 2 weetabix, 4 rice cakes and a baby wipe!

I see a day of me growling.. and I might even strop and not cook dinner tonight!
