Dusty - is it colic? Charlotte went through a twisty evening phase for a while, but Infacol and massaging her tummy sorted it out.
Up early and off to boot camp this morning, then got tickets for the match later. Hope we win
Have a good day all xxHere I go again on my own....0 -
Morning
dusty you can get gina ford from the library, I did for Bob but the routine couldn't fit with school runs but some of it was helpful. Bob would scream when he was that age whenever he was awake and not feeding - the only time he was quiet was in the bath so I used to give him the longest baths ever in the evening, luckily he slept loads and I knew it got better or I'd have been tearing my hair out. I did loads of pacing with him in the evening too - up and down the lounge, still do now sometimes but at least its nice and we can go round and round the garden - good exercise too lol.0 -
Thank you for all the views on 3 children. I have to say reading your posts I'm swaying to sticking with 2
I think I'll wait and see how desperate I am to have a third after number 2.
I have to say one thing that concerns me is having another bleed after giving birth. It was pretty scary at the time and I really thought I might die! I probably sound really silly. Should I be speaking to a midwife/doctor about this before getting pregnant again? Logic tells me I might be in safer hands the second time as they will be more prepared for it. But people do die don't they?
I came on to ask a question about DD. I feel terrible asking it after reading about people struggling with routines as I've been so lucky with DD. She'd been sleeping through since 7 weeks (9 hours a night) with the odd couple of days here and there where she woke up once in the night - I put this down to growth spurts as it seemed to coincide with increased feeding during the day too.
The last week now though she's woken every night for a feed around 2 - 3amFeeding is the same during the day. I'm actually thinking her routine is a bit out or something as she seemed a bit messed up last night feeding at 9pm, 10:30pm, 2am and now it's 9:30am and she's still not interested in eating. Normally she feeds around 9pm, 6am, 9am, 11:30am...
She's 14 weeks, anyone else had something similar? I daren't say anything to my mum as she's been going on about putting rusks in the milk for ages. But surely a baby that can go from 2am - 9:30am is not a hungry baby?Baby Giz born 6/2/110 -
Giz, I think there is a 4 month sleep regression. I will have a look at one of my many sleep books (mainly from the library) but you could also try googling. Personally I'd not put rusks in the milk, no way will she need solids at 14 weeks and rusks are full of sugar. There's more of what they need in breastmilk/formula than anything else. Are you bf or FF (sorry should know but can't remember)
After a terrible thurs night we have started some gentlish sleep training. Last night he was in the cot the whole night, big improvement. After going down at 7 (we also do a 7-7 pattern) he woke at 11 and took a couple of soothings/pupds to settle but then slept til 3.45. This is a massive improvement on recent weeks. A couple of times he did cry out but settled himself back which is a first! He then woke at 5ish, and 6ish but did settle back with some soothing and a little bit of crying.
DH has taken ds out to his dad's church dad's morning so I am enjoying a bit of quiet timewe are going to a friends for a bbq later

She is having a growth spurt and will settle again in a week or so.
It was advised in the 70's to add stuff to bottles.. now it is strongly advised against as a choking risk.. I know you survived and I survived but that doesn't change the fact a) rusks are not advised at all due to sugar content and gluten not being recommended until at least 6 months and b) weaning is now advised to be left until 6 months and c) adding stuff to bottles is a no go.
5 hours of continuous sleep is actually classed as sleeping through.. she is fine!LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
I would love some evening time too. She fusses all evening from about 7, wanting to be fed lots etc and then won't go to sleep till after 12. Managed to get her off to sleep half 11 last night which was a slight improvement and she slept till 3 for a feed. Has anyone got any ideas how to get her to sleep earlier?
I m worried her day is a bit out of sync as we usually end up lying in till half 9/10 as i am so tired. Then she will have a long nap in the afternoon as well normally.0 -

Hi Wendz. My LO wouldn't sleep until 1-2am for the first 5 or 6 weeks. She fed on and off from 7pm and was fussy. From 6 weeks she started sleeping from about 10pm until 5am, then back down after a feed until 10am. From 12 to 16 weeks she slept right through from 10pm to 8am. From 16 weeks to date (24 weeks) she goes to sleep at 8pm every night, feeds at 4am and wakes anytime between 6am and 8am.
There is a light at the end of the tunnel- although I'm waiting for the time when she doesn't need the 4am feed. Here's hoping!0 -
Will just stick it out then, she is nearly 4 weeks so hopefully in the next couple of weeks she might start sleeping earlier.0

Dusty - Actually I have a spare Gina Ford book if it helps? Its the same as one that I have, but it came as a freebie with a preg magazine. I can send it over to you no probs. But as a summary, our routine is generally as follows:
7am - Nappy change and feed. Then just have a cuddle on the sofa and generally wake up
8am - Get DD dressed after about 10 min of nappy free time. I then grab a shower and get dressed
9am - Nap time. I put DD in her pram and take the dog for a walk and she naps for most of the walk
10am - Awake and playtime. Generally on her playmat with her toys and some tummy time
10:30am - Nappy change and feed. Again, a bit of a cuddle on the sofa and This Morning!
11:45am - Lunchtime nap in her cot. Blinds shut.
14:15 - Wake DD up and change nappy and feed
15:00 - Playtime again. As above and I put the nursery rhymes CD on and we have a bit of a sing song! This time fits well with us as DH is out of bed by this time so he has a bit of daddy time as well.
16:30 - Afternoon nap - but just 30 min. I normally take her for a walk in the pram around the block
17:00 - Feed but not a full bottle. eg at the moment she is taking around 5oz per bottle, but at this feed I give her 4oz, so that she is still a little peckish after her bath
17:30 - Strip clothes and nappy free time - kick about on her mat
17:45 - Bath
18:00 - Baby massage and PJs on.
18:15 - Feed again with around 2-3 oz
19:00 - Sleeping in her cot
22:15 - I wake her for a feed
22:45 - Sleeping in her cot
Whenever in the middle of the night she wakes, she gets a nappy change and feed - all done in dim light with no interaction or stimulation. After about 30 min shes back to sleep in her cot
7am - The day starts again!
I know the above will seem rigid to some but it works really well for us. I use lunchtime to get housework done and evening time is me time.
Obviously the above is for days when we are at home. But days when we're out and about I can plan accordingly. If I'm going out shopping I'll go at lunchtime when she can nap in her pram. If we're visiting friends and rellies I'll go in the afternoon when I know she'll be awake for lots of cuddles and interaction.
Of course, the above is flexible. Like today, I had my SIL around in the afternoon and she gave her the 2.30pm bottle, and afterwards DD was fast asleep and really didn't want waking - so I'm not going to force it! I just made sure she was awake at 5pm for her feed and bedtime routine.0 -

Have you thought about washable pads? I resisted getting them with C because I kept thinking my supply would settle down... I got them in the end though because I was just using so many... I got some more this time around (since you can never find anything in this house!) and I have only had to buy 1 box of disposable ones
Another question - do I need to start looking into Nurseries for January 2012? Mum says I need to put DD's name down now...Baby Giz born 6/2/110
