That's reassuring, thanks hun. It's difficult to know how much he's getting, whereas with a bottle you know easily. He often falls asleep when feeding, so I have to stroke his cheek or blow on him to get him suckling again :D Or he releases the latch then gets really cross and it's hard to get past the flailing arms and he goes so rigid, he's so strong. I try holding him across my body with one arm and trying to get him to latch on with my hand supporting his neck. I'm not sure he always gets a good latch and maybe that's why he drops off and gets frustrated. He will stay on there ages sometimes.
Today I have fed exclusively breast and it is very tiring. Especially as I have a really painful back. Will keep persevering though, and will probably take you up on your offer to PM you - thanks :D
I know everyone says it, but it does get easier. I remember the early weeks I found it tiring also and I used to get back pain and arm ache and all sorts probably because I wasn't relaxed enough (it hurt like hell for me). Also DD was a pain with her arms, she used to get her arm in the way so I couldn't see her latching on and I'd have trouble getting the other arm out the way to get a nice close hold of her...but at some point she grew out of these habits and now she's very well behaved :)

I also found that I had to work out on my own what worked best for me. I had midwives telling what I should and shouldn't be doing (of course getting the latch right was important), but I had one tell me I needed to practice different positions as I couldn't do the cradle hold for long...well I'm still doing the cradle hold so I don't know what she was on about. But at the time I stressed myself out trying to do the rugby hold and lying down and I just couldn't do them. But in my own time I've finally mastered lying down. Still can;t do rugby hold though!

    No, barely any!

We had the baby stuff, I still had boobs.. I think the biggest expense was due to number 3 being prem I had to buy tiny baby stuff which the others hadn't needed.

I haven't found it made much difference having another until they are wanting adut food portions and get to high school, the uniforms are extortionate!!!

We had hand me down clothes so very little new.. they all have Clarks or startrite shoes and new coats for winter every other year so it really doesn't make much difference.

Ticket prices go up.. 'family' means 2 adults and 2 children usually, a few places offer 3 children but it isn't good.
Cars when you get to needing 3 car seats are awkward.
Eating out.. tables for 5 are non-existant.

    Nothing too life alterring!
I didn't even think of the car. Is it possible to fit 3 car seats/boosters in a normal car? We have a 3 bed house, but sharing is OK isn't it?

I need to come up with some pros so I can talk OH into having three :)

Thanks Giz :D I do definitely still want to continue. Sterilising and making up bottles is just so annoying, especially as you cannot make up bottles in advance.

Got MW tomorrow at some point so will talk to her about latching again. Although of course we got it first time when she was here before. Always different when you're on you're own and it's 3am :o

I'm just hoping he won't be grizzly tonight. He was fantastic last night, slept for 4 hours either side of a nappy change and feed. Tonight he's been quite grizzly and unsettled. OH is changing his bum now then we're off to bed. Will give him another go on boob and hopefully he'll settle.

Anyone else had hideous back pain post-baby? Hurts all the time and I am on a mixture of Naproxen, Paracetamol and Nurofen. Not able to get a physio appointment until 2nd June either.

You grew a big big baby..
    You did labour.
You were given an injection into your spinal column
You were hung up by our ankles
You had that big big baby wrenched from your body...

If you didn't have back ache I'd be concerned!!

  • Digital, have you tried laying him on a pillow on your lap to feed him? I find this so much comfier than trying to hold him up (and he was no where near as heavy). Plus when you have both got the hang of it, it leaves you hands free to go on mse - I am feeding now!

Also, my midwives and hv were rubbish with bf support but there are lots of proper trained people out there who can show you good positions etc (nct, la leche league or at childrens centre sometimes).

Congrats on your baby, wow 11 lb, no wonder your back aches!!

Digital - I wanted a water birth and ended up with an emergency c section, not what I had planned!

I feel like i have been up half the night, she didn't feed much but wouldn't settle to sleep unless she was cuddled up on my chest. Kept putting her back in basket and then getting woken up again grr.

gizmodo - I'm glad I'm not the only who missed being pregnant and wanted another straight away!! Lol...though Finn's almost 17 months and still not pregnant again (financial reasons, poo). We plan on TTC in July so hopefully will see some other Parent Club faces on the pregnancy threads sometime soon! I think as long as you're already a SAHM, then going from 2 to 3 won't make much difference. I feel like the 'big' leap is from 1 to 2, so that's why we've held off a bit :(. As for cars - I think you're best just measuring up and seeing if they will (or borrow a carseat just to try??) as some backseats are wider than others. Good luck!

I found going from 2-3 really expensive, we had to get a much bigger car as we had a small 4 seater, need a new dining room table and chairs eventually as we only have 4 chairs with this one (needs replacing anyway but sooner cos of Bob), holidays and days out are more expensive and alot harder to organise, I had real problems booking a hotel because they only want 4 in a room and the older ones are too young to go in their own room, eventually got it booked as we only need a travel cot for Bob but if we are going anywhere next year it'll be a problem. Sharing rooms is fine and I wouldn't change him for the world but I really didn't notice the difference with 2 - I have this time. Still there is talk of a fourth and that would probably mean a house move - it doesn't seem to matter how much they cost you always manage and it certainly wouldn't put me off or stop me, the only thing that concerns me about having a 4th is my health.

You can get three car seats in a micra, but it's not fun. I was not far off giving my twins some new (choice) words for their vocabulary by the time I was done!
