I don't know Giz..I've tended to base my nursery choices on personal recommendation and my own personal feeling of the place when I have been there.
Obviously ofsted reports are important, but I also think you need to be happy with what you see there too.Metranil dreams of becoming a neon,You don't even take him seriously,How am I going to get to heaven?,When I'm just balanced so precariously..0 -
I've been looking into nursery's today and looked at the ofsted reports. Was disappointed that the nursery opposite my place of work scored 'satisfactory' in all areas. Should I be basing my decision on these reports? Only found one other nursery in my area that scored higher than satisfactory.
@tinks - that's great news
Thanks Giz :A
We picked the nursery for DD#1 on the basis that it felt like a home as opposed to a sterile hospital if that makes any sense? I went on my gut feeling I did that same for play school & school also. You are the ones that knows your child the best no ofsted report can know what is best for your child. - Just my 2p worthIf you can think it........it will happen0 -

Forgive me for sounding really dim, but those of you talking about nurseries has got me thinking. I intend to work from home once Alexander is a bit older, and was thinking a day nursery for a few hours a day may be good for him to get to socialise with other kiddies. I didn't think I'd need to start thinking about that for a while at least, but do nurseries really have such long waiting lists? Or do you all live in big cities? We live in the country, so may be different.
When do you need to put their name down for a place?
Also, with regards to registering the birth, how do I go about it? Do I need to book an appointment? We need a little while longer as not decided on his middle name yet
Alex has been feeding sooo much today. General consensus seems to be he is feeding to up my supply - my milk has definitely come in now as when he came off tonight some milk dripped down. Bloody Mothercare have got my nursing bra size wrong and it makes it awkward when feeding. I was a 34C before, 36D maternity bra and they told me I needed a 40C nursing bra. I did question it at the time but she was sure she was right.
Anyone got any recommendations of where to get a good nursing bra fitting? I'm annoyed as the bras weren't cheap either.0 -
I agree too re nurseries. I have been putting off finding somewhere, of course I don't currently have a job to go back to but do need to look for something. There is one just 5 mins away that I am going to drop in and look at. Giz i am the same re nappies, i think lots of places do use washables if you ask, there's a thread on NMs about it i think, or there was a while ago. I also want somewhere who will respect the blw and that ds feeds himself and isn't coaxed into eating etc.
MV and Giz your babes are sleeping so well! We had a better night last night and are doing some gentle sleep training, a kind of mix of pick up put down and gradual withdrawl.Mum to gorgeous baby boy born Sept 2010:j0 -
digital - cross posted with you. Bravissimo are good for bras, including nursing bras. It's worth getting some decent ones. Initially I just had cheap M&S seconds off ebay but they were not supportive enough and I got a bad back (they were fine for the early days and at night) but I only bought 2 bravissimo ones and just wash them regularly, they're still in fine condition.
DOn't worry about nurseries until you've got your head round everything!
There's a growth spurt around 10 days/2 weeks so Alex is probably hitting that!
DH registered DS, you need to phone the reg office and make an appt/book online. You have to register within 42 days in the district baby was born in - more info here

Hi everyone. For those of you that were saying that your LOs liked Little Star yogurts, I was in Lidl yesterday and the packs with 100% extra free were £1. 12 for £1 seems pretty good to me.
18 for £1.49 in tesco.. a penny in my pocket.. kerching!!
digi.. mothercare bra are crap anyway.. never fit right.. bravissimo here.. too.. quidco and codes are available online.. you can choose a bra in the shop and order online.. I need some new ones actually.. mine feel 'floppy' like they've lost the support.. digital I work from home too (although blatently been skiving for 6 months :rotfl: :rotfl: ) and J is starting with a childminder next week. Pretty daunting, but I do get annoyed with people that think I can give 100% to work and 100% to J as well, just because I am at home.........0

Thanks very much Rach, that's very helpfulI would try Bravissimo but really would like to get fitted, and no stores that near me. May try M&S in store, have heard they are good.
Alex is 9 days old today, so seems to be having a growth spurt, that makes sense. Had a teary moment this evening as he fed for hours on each boob, but still cried when I put him down. Phoned breastfeeding support and the lady was lovely. She told me I'd done very well to get him on breast exclusively after feeding formula (which he was on when his lip was swollen due to forceps). He enjoys the breast as loves the closeness as well. Will keep with it, but it sure is exhausting and I feel like a dairy cow today0 -
Digital I second the dairy cow feeling! I have a pair of cow print pyjamas and my DH thinks it is hilarious when I use the breast pump when wearing them.0
