My little boy was admitted to hospital on Monday night after going back to the GP, has had Gastroenteritis bless him.

We were able to come home later in the night and he has really picked up, playing as normal, eating and drinking better.

Sorry to hear he was admitted into hospital, but pleased he is feeling better now.

Don't worry about jumping in randomly, we'd love to have you and anyone else joining in the natter.

    Does anyone not have stairgates?

I never bothered. I just taught them not to play on the stairs.

Ladies: If babies don't like going on their front for tummy time, how are they ever going to learn to crawl or turn over?

Charlotte hated tummy time. The only way she would tolerate it was if I lay on the sofa or bed, and she lay with her tummy on my chest.

It didn't seem to bother her. She managed to get around by bending her legs and pushing herself along on her back. The trouble was, she scrubbed her hair out and ended up with a baldy patch on the back of her head :o

I would just let him get on with what he wants to do. They all learn to crawl, walk etc., eventually, just some go about it in a different way to others.

BTW does anyone keep bubs in a sling in the house, so that they can get on with other things? if so could you recommend any?

I just used the bouncy chair with mine. As long as they could see me, they were happy and I'd give them a running commentary on what I was doing. They seemed to enjoy that :D

Jade have you tried a little cushion for tummy time? I put my baby on a little u-shaped cushion at the children's centre and he liked it much better so have improvised with a rolled-up towel at home!

I sometimes use the breastfeeding pillow for this, got Bob laying on it watching us all do jigsaw puzzles the other night, quietiest he'd been in ages.

Becles I wasn't actually thinking about the stairs, I was thinking about to stop him getting into the kitchen. Downstairs is all open plan. Think I'll leave it then if I really need them I can get them then.

Bob has only just now at 4 months started sitting in his bouncy chair for more than 5 minutes. I didn't bother putting him in the sling round the house, just got really good at doing things one handed. It feels like such a long time ago now but I can remember just a couple of months ago I would have to pace the downstairs for a good hour in the evening, if I stopped he cried, if I put him down he cried. Then I found he liked to be held facing out so he could see everything but I can only hold him like it for a little while otherwise it would do my back in.

I've never put mine on their front.. I think it is mean.. it is really painful after a few minutes. Sadly they all learned to walk and crawl and make a nuisance of themselves

I had a babasling when DD2 was a newborn as she wanted holding all the time. I've only used it half a dozen times though, as soon as I got it she started sitting in her swing a bit so had no real need for it.

We never did tummy time.. it distressed my babies and they gained nothing from it apart from friction burns and a sore nose! They can't see anything why would they want to lay face down on the smelly cold floor? Would you like it?

My youngest is currently 7 months and has rolled a few times.. then screamed to be turned back.. and she started sitting unaided last week.. They learn!

tummy time was how we found out Bob prefered being that way round lol. We put him down to play and 5 mins later he was asleep so he has slept on his front ever since. Even DS who is the only one of mine to sleep on his back really enjoyed tummy time. If they didn't like it I wouldn't force it though. Funny how they are all different.

Hello :) Elliot is 2 1/2 years old now, and I was just wondering what other people's toddlers are upto? We are due to see the HV again in about a month or so time about his speech, as he didn't want to talk to her at the 2 year review and I'm not sure if he's up to speed for his age. Although I've been reassured by friends and not to worry too much. I have noticed over the past couple of weeks that he can pronounce some words better ie he used to miss the 'k' off the end of park, dark etc but is now saying them properly. He also points out pictures in books and on tv more-without me asking him what they are. So i think he's come on a lot. The cutest word though is 'help!' when he drops a toy and its out of reach when in the car for example, or if he falls over and can't get his balance to get up!

We still have tantrums, but they are lasting less and less so that's good. He seems to react well when i give him a choice of 2 things, ie when we're out and he's walking, and starts playing up-i say to him walk or pushchair and he soon carries on walking and is well behaved.

Elliot is also obsessed with putting rubbish in the bin-bin, washing in the basket and washing up in the bowl :) He does help me quite a lot now around the house, even a bit of sweeping up with his toy brush and pan lol.

    Hope everyone is ok,

    keely.

Awww those are lovely things :)

It's been a while since I had a toddler but that all seems good for his age to me :)

My twins used to refuse point blank to talk to anyone. Sadly now they have forgotten what quiet is!

I think it's from birth. It's something to do with babies used to be put to sleep on their tummies so were used to being on their tummy, but now we have to put them on their backs, so they miss out on being on their tummy.

You sound like me! I've got boys who are 14 and 12 now, and a daughter who is 3. Things have changed between the 12 and 3 year old and sometimes I get confused even though she's my third one!

Keely - have you tried giving Elliot a clean dry cloth? Charlotte loves having her own cloth while I'm busy and she wipes things with it.
Here I go again on my own....
