Morning. How typical :( Sofia woke up at 5.30am starving and generally wouldnt settle, so I have brought her downstairs gave her her bottle and cue she is now fast asleep in her moses basket and I am now wide awake and exhausted if that makes sense :( DH has went back to bed, think he is getting really frustrated that S will sleep fine during the day in her moses basket but at night she just wont settle in it in our room. I dont know what to do for the best now, I feel like I have tried everything. Today I am going to buy a night light as it is the only thing that I can think of as to why she wont sleep at night that maybe the bedroom is too dark for her. I have never been the best sleeper in the world, but I am dying for a straight 5/6 hours sleep (wishful thinking)
Had our first health visitor appointment yesterday and she was really lovely - which was great as DH and I had a really bad day. As Mr S is not working at the moment, he went to the Jobcentre to sign on (this took a lot of persusaion (sp.) as he is a very proud man, but we cant just survive on my SMP) anyways they have told DH that he is not entitled to Jobseekers Allowance as I earn to much on SMP - I just cant believe it, I am only getting £124 a week, and that is no where near enough to pay all the bills we have. He has put an appeal in so hopefully something will come from it. PLease dont think that we are benefit scroungers or anything DH wants to work at home but there are just no jobs at the moment in the field that he works in. He usually works abroad and could go back to the middle east tomorrow - but I just dont think that I could cope with Sofia on my own.
Sofia has put on 4 pounds and is now 6pds 5ounces, which I was really pleased with. HV also suggested we upped her formula as she didnt think she was getting enough, the difference in her last night was amazing, she actually looked satisfied with the food she was getting, still made me cry right enough that I had been unknowingly starving her.lol. Blooming hormones.

Anyways sorry for babbling on - hope everyone else had a better sleep than me.

    Hello!

Just popping over from the pg thread to ask if anyone has used washable b00b pads, and if so do you have any advice / brand recommendations?

Hoping to get some but there seem to be a lot out there and couldn't find any independent reviews!

    Thanks!

Morning all, sorry you having such problems with S, but i promise it does get better. William as terrible at sleeping in his moses basket in our room. In the end i co slept with him for about 6 weeks! Then at 2 months we moved him into his own room, and he has slept much better. Most nights i now get about 4-6 hrs, it would be better if i went to bed when he did as i would then get at least 6 hrs! I think the night light should help as she can sleep downstairs in the light. We used a night light, slightly annoying for me, but helped William relax and sleep a little. Hold in there :)

Last night was great for me as OH was working late at home so dealt with William for his night feed, so i didn't get up until William woke up which was 10 to 8!!!!!! Fantastic, now lets see what today has to offer. Looks like rain, so maybe less walking than staying in?

With formula.. if they drain the bottle a few in a row add an extra ounce to the next one as they just need more.

Have you applied for child tax credits? he won't get JS but you might get that.. you can apply online so you don't even need to speak to anyone.

Have you tried an extra blanket or 2 when she is actually asleep? Sod what the books say.. if they get hot they kick the covers off but if they are cold they wake up and have a couple of glugs of milk, get warm in your arms and go back to sleep then you move and they scream the house down.. All this rubbish about them needing 1 more blanket than you.. I had 2 duvets and 2 blankets last night!!! Baby had vest, sleepsuit, sleepingbag and 5 blankets and I'd left a few off as she is unwell with a temp.

She may sleep better in the day because it is warmer in the house and is usually warmer downstairs than up so we wake up in the bedroom!

Pigpen - I have applied for Child Tax Credits, I will also get working tax credits as well but as S is only 2 weeks old its taking ages to get sorted, I sent all the forms away at the beginning of last week. It just seems really unfair that we are struggling so much with money etc when we should be enjoying S. We got our gas and elec bill in today which is over £500, so now it looks likely that DH will be going back abroad to work - this can happen quickly so he'll probs be away next week. Just dont know how I am going to cope on my own, I am already struggling with baby when he's here. Feel like I am doing a terrible job, as DH is the only one that can sooth her when she is screaming the place down at 3am.

I have also just added another scoop to her feed as she wasnt getting enough and it made a difference last night until about 2am when she woke up again. I think our bedroom is slightly cooler than downstairs but according to the room temperature thing it is a perfect temp. She usually has 3/4 blankets on her at night, but I find in the morning she has kicked them all off lol. Probs just trial and error I guess.

it just takes a while sharkey but it does get better. I think Bob was about 6 weeks old when he first slept for more than 3 hours, he would wake for a feed then go straight back to sleep after though. Mine have never woken up from being cold and our old house didn't have central heating so the electric one was just on a timer to come for for an hour in the middle of the night. I thought Bob didn't like the dark at first as he slept better downstairs and now he is older the opposite is true.

Picked up Bobs jumperoo this morning, off ebay for £40 looks like new and the invoice shows the lady only bought it in Nov. Bob seems to really like it too but I don't think it'll make much difference to our rubbish evenings, he is just tired but won't nap. DD friend is coming after school today so someone else to look at might entertain him a bit.

I'm not a lot of use eally because I've never used them and I'm not even sure whats out there :o but I'd suggest ones with plastic backing as otherwise they might get too wet and stain your clothes anyway :)

they will backdate it to when you applied.. ring them and chivvy them along a bit .. they like it.. it makes them feel wanted.. ;) If the bills have just come ignore them for a week could alwas (if you don't already) ring them and ask if they would put ou on a budget plan they average out your last years bills and you pay a smaller sum each month.. british gas also now do monthly billing if that helps?

the 'perfect temp' varies between individuals.. OH likes it a lot warmer than I do and small babies often need extra layers to keep warm.. trust your instincts with that one rather than a thermometer.. she can't run about to get warm and sitting closer to the floor is draughty. Freja is always freezing so has 3 or 4 more layers than me.. vest, tshirt jumper cardy and blanket..

I've used the Boots reusable breast pads and found them fine, but I only used them when LO was six months plus so my supply had settled down a lot. I don't think they'd be absorbent enough for the first few months (at least they wouldn't have been for me). I have heard that the Medela ones are really good, but not tried them myself.
