The night before he slept well, woke twice in the night for his 2 feeds (2.45am and 5.30am), and then slet through till 7am. We were very excited about this, but then last night he just screamed most of the night, struggled to feed and wouldn't settle.
I know this sounds odd, but have you thought about keeping a diary of everything you eat and drink?
Compounds and tastes from food and drink you eat can end up in the breast milk and upset babies. If you write everything down you eat and how well he settles, you might find a pattern. Say if he's unsettled every time you have a curry, you know not to eat curry while you're feeding him.Proud mummy moment: my DD made a bread bun at nursery today and eat all of it at home
Yay - I love it when they come out with things they made.
Had a good time at the museum today. They had some of the uniforms and guns and stuff out for children to try.
Been back to boot camp this evening, but I've still got this cold hanging around and found it a bit tough. Managed to do 210 press ups and 210 sit ups though, and now I ache! Here I go again on my own....0 -
MV as pigpen said could be a million things - too slow/wind or could be overtired - t screams when i try feed him when he is overtired. Good point Becles t never seems too bothered re what I eat but I know others have really sensitive tummies. Getting better for sleep t only significantly got better when he was 3 and a half months (sorry!) but know sleeps through (pretty much) from 8 till 7 but I know in the future this may change.Thomas born 28/08/2010 weighing 5lbs and 4ounces, small but perfectly formed :j:j Now weighs 19lbs and 5 ounces

It's good to get out for a walk if you can. I've got dogs so I'm out walking every day in all weathers. Charlotte has come with me from birth. She's 3 now and she doesn't care what the weather is like. Even today when it was bitterly cold and drizzling, she was happily running around collecting sticks!
It does you good as well and gets the endorphins and stuff going. I tend to see the same faces when I'm out, and even just a quick "hello, miserable weather again" type chat will make you feel better on days when your OH is back at work.
I've been reading about Outdoor Nation in my National Trust Magazine.

This bit is relevant:
There are loads more research papers on here about the link between health and nature, and the importance of letting children play outside. I'm busy reading through them and finding them interesting.

Sorry if I'm boring people but I like being outsideYesterday we went to town and opened an account for DD. So did a fair bit of walking there and again felt good after. So we're aiming to do something everyday now.
I'm not sure if I have a cold or not. I've been occassionally getting really achy in my muscles and bones - almost like when you have the flu, but it's on and off. Sometimes I get cold too and have to wrap myself up in a duvet even though it's warm in the house. OH thinks it's just me being overtired. When I'm out though (like in town yesterday and at mums), I don't have any problems. It seems to be when I'm relaxing.
Today's plans are a trip to Hobbycraft to buy me lots of scrapbooking baby girl papers and embellishments for DDs scrapbook (it's my belated birthday pressie from OH). And then we're off to in-laws.
What are you lot up to?
I'm afraid I'm close to quitting bf again. I broke down in front of mum and I'm in tears all the time at home. But I'm really trying to stick it out until I can express and get OH to give 1 bottle a day. When can I start this? How do I start? What do I need for storing breast milk? I will have a google in a bit, but maybe some of you won't mind helping.
I have a manual pump which I used about day 4 because I nearly quit then and I pumped for 5 mins per breast (as per instructions) and got 15ml in total.
@MV - sorry you're having some problems ((hugs))
@Merfe - congrats on bob sleeping through
@sharkey - we gave up with the infacol, she seemed to projectile vomit much more when on that.Baby Giz born 6/2/110 -
Hi GIZ,
sorry to hear bf isnt going well again, i was same nearly quit a million times but managed until 22 weeks and stopped due to going back to work. Sorry to say but I never found it easy and it never came naturally to me!
i expressed from about 1 week, the more you do the more starts to come out. You can buy milk storage bags to keep in freezer, keeps for ages. or in fridge for a day.:j0 -
Thanks for this. I did feel feel better, although quite exhausted and it was only a short walk Yesterday we went to town and opened an account for DD. So did a fair bit of walking there and again felt good after. So we're aiming to do something everyday now.

Are you taking any vitamins? I'm still taking pregnacare which I took throughout pregnancy. Every time I stop taking them I start feeling run down, I think breastfeeding really takes it out of you so you need a bit extra. I think breastfeeding it totally worth it if you can stick at it. First you have to do it enough so it doesn't hurt, then you have to get through the cluster feeds and then the adjustment when teeth come in but it's such an easy way to feed, you don't have to worry about how much they are getting, no bottles to make, free food on tap wherever you are and a guaranteed way to settle LO. I breastfeed Erin to sleep and I love cuddling up to her every night.
You can start expressing and giving breast milk in a bottle at any time, they usually say to wait a few weeks to avoid nipple confusion but I think that's a bit of a myth so I would just go for it. Although LO may not take to a bottle and you may need to try a few different bottles. Both my sisters expressed so their OH's could give a bottle. Although I could do it I just never bothered as it's soo much faff! But I was told that you should try to express 1/2 hour after a feed and morning is usually better so you avoid the evening cluster feeds. You can store the milk in little tubs that come with expressing kits or sterile plastic bags that you can buy - you want to aim to store it in amounts that baby will drink so you don't end up defrosting more than you need. It will take a while for your body to get used to having the extra to express so I would expect an unsettled few days for LO while you build up supply (another thing which put me off and probably best not to start expressing if LO is having a growth spurt) however it's great to have a supply in the freezer for emergencies like if you are ill on medication or something.
Please feel free to ask if you have any more questions, breastfeeding isn't easy, it's such a learning curve for you and LO and needs constant adjustment as they grow, I think somehow we have lost a lot of the knowledge we need understand breastfeeding ie. knowing what is normal so that is why this forum and other sites on the internet are so good.Mum to DD born Oct 2009

William finally rejected my breast completely 2 weeks ago and we stopped bf this week, 14 weeks old! I am very sad about it but he was not at all happy and is sleeping better and a more cheery baby now with formula only. I will hope to do better if and when we have another little one
I loved it, despite it being hard work but our bodies are all different and this is what mine has done.
Good luck MV you are doing really wellLeopardlady

Hi all
On the breastfeeding issue I always thought that you were advised to avoid expressing in the first 4 weeks to allow breastfeeding to become established (as baby regulates supply).
I think the best way to express is to find a time when you have say half an hour free (eg when baby naps ) and express regularly at that time as then you body will gradually respond to that demand and start to make milk for that time.
There are links to guidelines on how long the milk keeps for on the first (or maybe second) post of this thread....its quite a long time out of the fridge even so it's useful to know.
hope that helps x.MSE PARENT CLUB MEMBER.ds1 nov 1997ds2 nov 2007:jFirst DDFirst DD born in june:beer:.0 -
HI all, I've been mia since DD was born but everything is settling down now and I finally have time to type:T, serves me right for taking on too much I suppose:)
Giz can completly empathise with you, I felt the same but honestly if you persevere it's totally worth it, I'm still bfing Lottie most of the time but from 5 weeks we introduced small amounts of formula, mainly for my sanity:o and she took to it quite well and now we give her formula when out and about, mainly due to the fact I'm no good at covering myself up, natural exhibitionist me:p:rotfl:
Anyhoo I have a bfing question, what are the signs that baby is ready to give up the boob??? I have a feeling Lottie isn't as keen on bfing anymore as I am:( She gets really agitated while at the boob and is constantly on and off it, it's definitely not wind and her attachment has always been good. The only time she feeds well is just before her bedtime and I think thats only coz she's too knackered to wriggle about:p:D
