would it not be easier to do a post on main board for weeklies that just took you through to the list of weekly comps so you can just scan down the list to see which if any you wanted to enter?

Yes. But isn't that what the stickies on the regulars board are? :)

A lot of people said they didn't have time to use both boards so people are just trying to find ways to help them see more comps and help avoid the dupes on regulars and main at the same time

The issue isn't people who just use regulars it's people who use both boards. But that's me being pedantic. I agree there seem to be less who use both boards than who just use main.

If it was just about people who use both boards then I would suggest not having the threads in the regular section at all, and each competition would just get posted in the main section as a separate thread each week/month. However this would not be good for people that just use regulars, which is why it's not practical.

    That might work too.
BUT it would depend on whoever posts on main being on their toes and stating straight away that it was a regular when they post and (preferably) supplying the link so that people who use regulars can check their thanks easily. As well as posting the link on the thread on regulars.
If the OP doesn't state that and someone that uses both boards enters before someone else points it out then the risk of duping is still there.

When you say "so they can check their thanks easily" I don't see why they would need to. They would track their entry via the thanks on the threads in the main board. The post on the thread in the regular section would just contain a link to the thread in main (no direct entry link) so if they ever entered from the regular thread they would have had to come to the thread in main.

The way Amilucky? has suggested eliminates the risk more thoroughly IMHO. And I'm not sure there are that many comps that are on ongoing but need regular answers so not too much extra clicking by main board only compers would be required I think?

The extra clicking is done as you cannot enter directly from the thread in main so you are having to click through to the post in regulars. [under the Amilucky suggested method]

Not being arguementative just stating the cons I can see of that suggestion :)

Don't worry, I know, and nor am I. I'm not really sure I'm explaining it very well either. Still trying to get my head round it all, including my own suggestion.:)

all weeklies/monthlies with end dates are now posted in mains anyway

I know but they are generally still posted as one single thread just like they would be in the regulars section, so the "main only"s have to see them early and then either bookmark them, or they have to use the sticky threads in the regular section anyway.

but that's what the majority of people wanted as per the result of the poll, comps with an end date on the main board even if they have a regular entry :)

amilucky's idea is only to make mains compers aware of the ongoing comps with no end date that are still left in regs :)
rather than them having to go to the regs board and look for them :)

But if someone entered from the post linked in the sticky before it was posted in main and re-linked to regulars then they would need to check their thanks.
And if you mean a brand new thread should be started in regulars each week/month this would really affect the people who use regulars as there is no way the sticky managers could be expected to keep up. The stickies are a really fast and convenient way to run through all the regular comps. Much faster than using bookmarks or wading through the whole board.
(I think if a few more people gave them a chance them they might like them.)

The Amilucky suggested method is effectively to do a favour to the main board only compers and make them aware of a comp or two they may otherwise miss (regular ones with no end date) ..... an extra click on a few comps isn't that big an ask. If they all went on main it would get really clogged and I would expect a lot would fall off the radar if they all needed to be reposted each week/month.

That's OK I know that. Just wanted to be sure you (and everyone else) knew I wasn't having a go, tensions have been high round here lately :)

Sorry I have no idea at all how to multiquote so that it makes more sense :(
Have read back over it and that's about as good as I can manage at the mo....I'm not explaining myself well either :) I think I'll call it a day for tonight because I'm confusing myself lol. Really hope I've not upset anyone with my replies, just trying to explain myself and doing a bad job, xx
  • could i ask for opinions on if this one is a daily or not? terms to me imply its not but question is being changed daily?

Test your knowledge of the ATP World Tour for a chance to win a trip for two to South Africa, courtesy of South African Airways. Each day through 6 February you can take a daily quiz and enter for a chance to win two round-trip economy tickets to South Africa, valid for travel within the next 12 months.

Take the daily quiz and register for a chance to win! One entry per person.

I would say it is a daily and the T&C mean one entry per day.

Yes. But isn't that what the stickies on the regulars board are? :)

A lot of people said they didn't have time to use both boards so people are just trying to find ways to help them see more comps and help avoid the dupes on regulars and main at the same time

It was the stickies list I was talking about.

I found the extra postings for the weeklies a bit confusing tbh and I know a lot of people don't have time to wade through the regs board but the stickies list of weeklies means you can just scan down the list to see if there is any that you want to enter, if there are you can just click on that one to go to the post. :)

The post on the main board could just have a header saying list of regular weekly comps here or something similar rather than 2 or 3 links and the writing.
If at first you don't succeed try, try, try again.

a few people have said that it takes to many clicks to enter via the re-directed links to regulars well here's a comparison

from the main board click on Regular Competitions then weekly competitions then select the prize that you wish to enter then select the last page then scroll down to find the answer

The same comp from the main board

    * the first link can really be discounted as most people don't enter comps from the main page but I have included it to save any argument

click on the link to regs there is no need to find the correct page link or to scroll down to find the answer

click on the main competition link

by entering from the main board you are actually saving 1-2 clicks and getting to see the answer and comp link without scrolling which actually saves time as well

maybe the links to regs could be worded better to make them less confusing (nothing is set in stone the comps and the text where just a test)

maybe a tag could also be added to the title (R) so that you would know from the main page that the comps are re-directs to the regs board and you could then choose to ignore them if so desired

if there was a stickie on the main board you would still have to do extra clicks to get to the comp that you wanted to enter and you would also need another maintainer to keep the links up to date
  • Probably been covered many times before but as a newby will ask anyway. When entering the major competitions eg This morning/Loose women etc do you actually stand the same chance of winning by entering by phone than you do by entering for free online. As a phone entry usually costs over £1 a time and the online entry method is free i cannot believe those that give away the prizes are not biased to entrants who pay for the privelidge. Am i wasting my time entering online or is there any evidence that all entries are treated equally. Anyone out there that has won one of these prizes by entering online ? Would love to see the figures on how many entries they get, by which entry method and the breakdown of how winners entered but guess it is highly classified information- and i can guess why !!
