Ongoing threads in Regs that may be missed by Mains compers
it is ok to post a thread on the main board with a weekly/monthly end date linking to the actual comp thread on the regs board, this thread shouldn't include a link to the actual comp site to avoid duplicate entries. BGs can lock these 'link threads' if they are made aware of them to prevent links being posted
That reads OK to me
Thanks again for all your hard work with this issue Glad. Same to the other BGs and anyone making suggestions/comments to try and get everything straightened out

Me neither
I just opened this one https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3017378 and was puzzled that there was no comp contained in it but clicked the link & found I've already entered this week so wasted time opening the thread at all.
I don't really see the point in them being posted if they are already on regs board? Maybe I'm missing the point though? xxSmall business owner 🧵 Ex MSE comper 🏆 Student loan repayer 💴 Romanian dog rescuer 🐕 Hopefully a cost of living survivor 🤞🏻0 -

I think there are 2 reasons
1) so comps on regulars aren't reposted in full on main which could mean people that use both disqualify themselves
2) so comps on regulars can be seen by the people who only use main
But that's just my understanding I could be wrong0 -

I agree - this double posting is idiotic.
Maybe it's not ideal.
But nor is duping a post that is already on regulars onto the main board. At least this is an option that eliminates that issue so people don't disqualify themselves if they use both boards.
And at the same time it gives all the people that don't have the time to go on regulars (from the discussion last week there are a lot of people in that situation) a chance to see some more comps
I'm really not having a go at anyone in particular in saying this but I see a lot of people saying this won't work, that won't work, but not many people saying how about trying this...IMHO nothing is going to be ideal we just need to try and find a best fit and Amilucky?s trial posts are one option that could work. Other suggestions are welcome0 -
Other suggestions are welcome
One alternative could be the idea that is currently being trialled but in reverse.
i.e. For weekly or monthly competitions, the competition is posted as a separate thread each week or month on the main board. Then there can be a thread in the regulars section that is updated with a new post that links to the new thread on the main board. This thread in the regulars will not contain a direct link to enter the competition.
So this uses the same theory with regard to avoiding dupes and letting everyone see the competitions, but just the other way round. From what I can tell there are more people that use just the main section than there are people who use just the regular section. So this way fewer people would have to go through the process of clicking through the extra clicks each time.0 -
or the other option is for Andrea to add the following to her post
Ongoing threads in Regs that may be missed by Mains compers
these can be found in the daily/weekly/monthly stickies here
amilucky's idea was to try to make it easier for people to pick up these comps when doing their normal date searching in mains

The issue isn't people who just use regulars it's people who use both boards. But that's me being pedantic. I agree there seem to be less who use both boards than who just use main.
That might work too.
BUT it would depend on whoever posts on main being on their toes and stating straight away that it was a regular when they post and (preferably) supplying the link so that people who use regulars can check their thanks easily. As well as posting the link on the thread on regulars.
If the OP doesn't state that and someone that uses both boards enters before someone else points it out then the risk of duping is still there.
The way Amilucky? has suggested eliminates the risk more thoroughly IMHO. And I'm not sure there are that many comps that this would be done for so not too much extra clicking by main board only compers would be required I think?
Also if it was made a rule of thumb that when you update a new weekly/monthly on regulars you post a link on main then no-one would miss out on any of these comps.
Not being arguementative just stating the cons I can see of that suggestion0 -
sorry twotimes had the reply box open a while and hadn't read you post
amilucky's idea relates to the ongoing comps (with no end date) where the link in mains would be posted every week/month to make main compers aware of it, so the ongoing thread would really have to be in regs
all weeklies/monthlies with end dates are now posted in mains anywayI am a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Wales, Small Biz MoneySaving, In My Home (includes DIY) MoneySaving, and Old style MoneySaving boards. would it not be easier to do a post on main board for weeklies that just took you through to the list of weekly comps so you can just scan down the list to see which if any you wanted to enter? If at first you don't succeed try, try, try again.
