  • love this idea and a massive thank you from me and others for helping find a solution :) searching for the whole term as one word works brilliantly, and cuts out all the extra threads that searching for it as a couple of words finds :D:

even if nothing is edited/bumped it would be incredibly helpful to just have guessedenddate added from here on in. that way old posts dont have to be bumped, nobody needs to feel pressured to find the time or inclination to edit old posts or pm posters suggesting they do so and eventually ALL guessed end date posts would then be searchable as old ones get moved to game over. hopefully that way to no one would feel like something is being forced on and demanded form them :)

the main ones for editing/bumping would be those that say have a guessed date of end of the year which would be around for months yet rather than those that will be moved to game over in the next couple of months.

    Hi Everyone

Sorry to barge in!! I don't really know where to ask this question, so I'm hoping someone can help me on here, (sorry if it's the wrong place :o)

I'm thinking of creating a new facebook and Twitter account just for Comps.
I need to create a new e mial address first. I need advice on wether to do Hotmail or Yahoo etc... any ideas which ones are best? My home email is BTinternet.

    Many Thanks all
    Hope this makes sense!!!

    Sarah
my main comp email is gmail, ive seen some sites that say they cant accept hotmail emails due to the tendency for them to be hacked easily or something similar so i would suggest skipping that one.
apart from that i think its just down to personal preference, i have email accounts form most of the web based providers and refuse to use one that might be tied to my isp if i change provider :rotfl:

I have a newly set up Gmail account, and my home email is with AOL. I've heard in the past that using AOL is not that good for entering online comps (I seem to do best on the postals etc). In your experience, would it be better to switch to using Gmail instead or doesn't it really matter? Thanks in advance. :)

  • re searching guessedenddate...searching now brought up 3 comp threads and the discussion....t-shirt one has been edited i think cause its not a new post, other two i think are new posts, but no gina shoes one yet for me either. (and that was a forum wide search not just comps forum search as was form the link at top of my user cp page) which is great.

i dont think it really matters, my emails are gmail, yahoo, and windows live on the whole, just cause theyre the ones i know best so when i want a new one i go to them. i never liked aol but thats just personal preference, i tolerated there im program for a while as certain friends didnt use others...but thats largely my only experience of aol tbh :)

I have a suspicion that the search updating on an ongoing basis during the current day applies only to new posts. Where guessedenddate has been edited in today by the OP (I've done a few) these will only be found by search after the full overnight updating has been done. The four it finds at the moment all have new posts with the term inserted. Try the search tomorrow - I hope it will find the edited ones as well.

    Looks good to me Amilucky?:)
Seems an easy and logical way to keep everyone happy...to me at least ;)

Maybe as we are just about to enter a new month we could do the same with the monthlies that require new answers each month but are ongoing? Even if it's just as a trial for February to see how things go?

Good idea to try them and see the response.

I wonder if the second link in your posts - which goes to post #1 only - should go to the whole thread instead ie. https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2966592
    rather than
    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=40007798&postcount=1
I am thinking in particular of cases where there is useful information in posts #2 or #3.

As regards locking - it may be necessary, but I would be tempted to leave these trials open for some time to see what (if any) response is posted. The warning at the end may be enough - and if it is it would save BGs work in the future.

The threads have already been locked so I will leave the secondary links for now but have taken on-board what you have said and in any future post's I will link to the whole thread
