I have now added guessedenddate to the bodies of all of my current post's with ? in the title

however they don't appear to be showing up at present when I search maybe they will show later?

Glad has give me permission to post up some ongoing weekly comps from regs onto the main board I have posted some test post's up

I hope that they are OK!

if you notice any mistakes with the links please let me know as the threads will be locked shortly (they should be OK as I have double checked them)

i like this amilucky, the only thing i would maybe suggest is a link to the thread instead of just the specific op....it should still show the op first (so long as your not scrolled way down the page ive found) and then people can scroll through the thread if they wish to without having to go find it separately in regulars iyswim? linking to the latest post so the person who has posted can be thanked easily is brill too as it means anyone who doesnt want to scroll can easily get to that specific one :D

edit one eye beat me to it and explained what i meant much better and more concisely :rotfl: so just ignore me here :D

I have a suspicion that the search updating on an ongoing basis during the current day applies only to new posts. Where guessedenddate has been edited in today by the OP (I've done a few) these will only be found by search after the full overnight updating has been done. The four it finds at the moment all have new posts with the term inserted. Try the search tomorrow - I hope it will find the edited ones as well.

that would make complete sense, i know theres a couple others of us keeping an eye out and testing it too :p will let you know tomorrow if someone else doesnt beat me to it :)

Seems an easy and logical way to keep everyone happy...to me at least ;)

Maybe as we are just about to enter a new month we could do the same with the monthlies that require new answers each month but are ongoing? Even if it's just as a trial for February to see how things go?

id like a trial......then we can see what people think and either carry on OR go back to the monthlies all being posted separately and thus not added to the sticky thread, depending on how people have found it based on experience :D (but i wouldnt object if it was decided to wait and see how it goes with dailies and weeklies before trying it with monthlies:))
  • theres a couple of other ideas that have come up a few times in conversations with a few people so while we are discussing everything ill bite the bullet and ask about one while we are here :)

i asked yesterday in dailies if a list of purchase necessary comps would be useful to anyone. thats another category i rarely find until the day before they end when its too late to add to my shopping list or swap to that particular brand of product. id be quite happy to add a list onto the dailies thread or keep a list as a new sticky (ideally though unlikely it would be allowed even in regs i suspect) so they are easier to find when you have the product (like tango that i keep forgetting to bookmark when i have a code ready) and its easy for people to skim to see if there is anything they would want to swap brands for. the instant win/npn route available as well would still need linked in the appropriate place on the appropriate thread as well as in the purchase necessary list. however if its something no one else would ever use or benefit form then it would be pretty pointless me trying to link them all in one place so what do people think please?

nb: i rarely buy a product if its not something i buy anyway, but the butter one last year (was it clover?) i would have bought that brand instead of my usual had i known in time that there was a comp running.....i am somewhat assuming others do the same, and obviously the £1.50 max will still be stuck to as it is now :)

I thought it was a good idea for people to see it actually posted :)

if people are happy with this solution then I'll pm Andrea and other BGs later to see what they think :)

it would need something adding to Andrea's 'new start' sticky, and you compers are probably the best to say what would explain it properly, but how does the following sound as a suggestion?

Ongoing threads in Regs that may be missed by Mains compers
it is ok to post a thread on the main board with a weekly/monthly end date linking to the actual comp thread on the regs board, this thread shouldn't include a link to the actual comp site to avoid duplicate entries. BGs can lock these 'link threads' if they are made aware of them to prevent links being posted :)

  • the other thing i was going to suggest in my biting the bullet is ....
the comp guide is fabulous and a great resource. it is very detailed though. you know how (to use someone elses analogy) a new phone say comes with the instructions and a quick start guide with just the basics, would it be an idea to have something for newbies mainly, with the most basic of info in a short post?
including eg: here is the comp guide, its a good idea to read it.
search before you post a comp to make sure its not already posted.
pm a bg (links at bottom of main page) to request merges
......so really just a few pointers and the info that more detail can be found in the guide and a link to it.

not sure ive explained that too well but hopefully one of you will understand what i mean and can explain better if necessary :D
    what do you all think?
  • sorry, but im sooooooooo confused with all this discussion. sorry amilucky but im also sooooooooo confused by the way those comps are worded? i dont even know which link i should be clicking on.
Im not being rude, just dont really understand what is going on here?

I'll pm Andrea and Bgs later this evening, in case anyone else wants to respond so if she agrees then some of the ongoing monthlies can be posted with end of feb date

Good idea to try them and see the response.

I wonder if the second link in your posts - which goes to post #1 only - should go to the whole thread instead ie. https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2966592
    rather than
    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=40007798&postcount=1
I am thinking in particular of cases where there is useful information in posts #2 or #3.

As regards locking - it may be necessary, but I would be tempted to leave these trials open for some time to see what (if any) response is posted. The warning at the end may be enough - and if it is it would save BGs work in the future.

I agree with a link to the thread as very often T&C's are posted in the 2nd post :)

and am happy to leave them unlocked as it would be less work for BGs, if anyone does come in and post links to the comp, answers etc, it's quite easy to select those posts and merge them into the ongoing thread
either way is fine with me :)

the first link takes you to the most recent post which contains the most recent/new answer and link to the question :)

the second link takes you to the thread itself so you can thank the original poster and tick entered if you want to and can see terms etc or anything else, again should you want to :)

hth make it a little clearer
