it would mean extra clicks but a lot of people on the main board would maybe get to enter a comp that they would normally miss out on entering and the people who post the updated comps in regs would get the thanks they deserve ;)

you wouldn't need to do extra searches in regs as when you do a normal search the child forums are selected by default and would show up in the search results

yeah i see your point re clicks and thanks :) does seem like a solution, maybe some of the main board people will pop by and comment with their thoughts on it :)

search wise some people would need to switch form searching only main via the link below the child forums and use the search this forum link above the child forums to keep the search within comp time i think?
i seem to recall that people have said in the past they only search main and thus miss things posted in regs when dupes have been posted before :undecided (i may be wrong, im forever accidentally going to the complete forum search at the very top and thus end up with arms, and benefits and all sorts in my search :rotfl: )

ps in case its not clear, im not knocking the idea, just looking for potential pitfalls so they can be sorted out before they become a problem iyswim :)

I think the search may have changed because if you search from main now it brings up the results from regs as well, try searching for Begleys from the main search don't use advanced just use search threads and you will see ;)

Yeh, your right pcl, I'm sure that nothing is set in stone just yet and Andrea is still open to suggestions :)

    Glad defo said that.

Only commented because about a week ago we were getting somewhere and the polls were posted a little hastily and we took a step back. And then we were coming to some kind of agreement this week and the new definition etc went up and we got more confused.
Wasn't being critical, just honest. Appreciate all attempts to get this sorted and it's nice we can discuss it rationally now.

And pcl don't think you need a disclaimer you didn't sound like you were having a go at all there. I was worried I did lol.

I agree beffffff there was really no need for a disclaimer!

I guess we are all treading on eggs shells right now and frightened of upsetting each other and setting of a flame war again

which is nice to see really, as it means that the boards are settling down and getting back to some form of normality again :)

just wondering for the comps which still remain on the regulars board that have a regular weekly end date like Sony Ericsson, Begleys, Chelsea FC, Tissot Watches etc would it be ok to post the comps on the main board like the above but keep the actual comp link on the Regulars board

Novel solution which appears to be sensible at first - ie. We have a link in regular sticky to a comp on the main board so why not have a link on main to an ongoing comp on regulars.

Only problem I can foresee is a second poster "just being helpful" could post the direct link to the comp (and the Q&A) as post #2 on the main board. I think it could work if this could be prevented, but there is the additional problem of "training" everyone to do it.

I think most suggestions would need some training :( unless I've missed some (which is incredibly possible).

Not being difficult asking this, just trying to understand. How did people that only use main used to enter the ones posted in regulars? I mean like 6 months ago...

if someone pm'd a BG the thread on mains (which just had a link to the thread on regs) it could be locked to prevent the above :)

I think (correct me someone if I'm wrong ;)) that a lot of people only used main and never noticed any comps on regs, but never realised they were missing out, but when some threads that were always on main were moved to regs they were missed and thus the debate started :)

and now everyone is trying to make it easier for people to see comps on both boards which is great for all compers :)

this sounds very sensible to me and an equal compromise too both ways of comping would then be accommodated.
If at first you don't succeed try, try, try again.
