Hi all, I was wondering if I could join in the fun. I'm literally starting from scratch having become debt free in September. I've had a couple of months of fun and buying all the things I hadn't been able to for years. Now I want to knuckle down again and start saving in 2012.
I have £500 spare in my budget to save, plus any overtime (which pays £100 a shift - I do anywhere between none and 8 but usually 2-4)
I have a first direct current account so I'm thinking up until April I'll plug all my money into an ISA to use up some of this years allowance, and then I'll split it with £300 a month into the FD regular saver, and £150 + any overtime (usually £200-£400) into an ISA. I'm hoping that'll average out at around £445 a month in the ISA to max it out.
With the last £50 of guaranteed income I'll pop into an easy access account as my birthdays/christmas savings, takes the pressure off come next December!
Hopefully I'll start his with Decembers pay, but christmas is always a money sucker so it might not be until January!
Looking forward to saving with you all!

What most people do is open an ISA then transfer money each month on payday. Try and make it an amount that you know you can cope without
It's about getting the balance right
See I still have a balance of £500 on a credit card to pay lol, minimum payment is £27 but ive been paying £50. Instead of putting what I can in my savings account, should I just be using it to pay the card off??
I have £100 in the savings account and dunno if its worth it or getting another kinda way of saving, so confused!0 -

snooping_around wrote: »Quick update from me, well ive made it to 100K. Even made a bit on my S&S ISA by trading silver. Ive decided to spend a bit more on myself as I feel I have reached a point where I dont know what the point of saving is!
Ive also put on hold the idea of investing in property, although id love to move out of my parents house, I dont feel now is the right time for various reasons.
Good to read this thread and see so many people reaching their targets. Keep up the good work folks.
Hey!
I'm a long term lurker on this thread and find it really inspires my savings. I just had to register to respond to this post. WOW you reached 6 figures in your savings! Good job! I aspire to reaching the same goal one day but at £5k in shared savings I have a v long way to go!!! Would your mind me asking at what age you reached this amazing achievement!? I would love to get there by age 40 but not sure how realistic that is!!0 -
