  • Well said, tara.
  • With the EU looking like they want to prevent another bubble market, i would imagine renting is probably the best option for most of us (who dont own a house)

Ah well, long awaited bad update for me.

As from my previous post, i blew away £500 on betfair, got some of it back but for my mates 19th birthday we ended up in a casino, so blew some money away there.

Last week, i was hungover, so kind of bought an ipad and iphone..... was a bad decision.

But hey ho, would rather of had this outburst of spending now before next year as im doing the 12k in 2012 challenge, wont be 12k though. Will be hopefully around 7-8k

    Savings

    First Home Saver - £5100
    Emergency Fund - £500

Set up an account with work, so from end of this month £285 comes straight out of my wages so i dont see it and im going to save it for hopefully 2 or 3 years so it will be a good sum towards my flat/house deposit. Also, from the new year each month i will be maxing out my First Home Saver with £300 a month, and hopefully save a wee bit more.

Only 1 Target. To Have £15000 in savings before 01/01/2013

  • Saved another £20 on my Post Office budget card this morning, got £170 now ready for the car tax due in Dec. I'm sure it was well over £200 to tax it last year so wanted to be prepared for this year! Ah well, it's the first time either of us have owned a relatively nice and new car, so i can live with it costing a bit more to keep on the road. We'll keep it till it no longer runs, by which time we'll have saved enough for a new one.

Have also bought £5 in Morrisons saving stamps this week. I've been saving throughout the year. plus DH clocks up a lot of miles in his job so I've got a couple of the Miles vouchers from the petrol stations. PLUS I'm doing the Christmas saving offer they've got on so that'll be another £25. All in all I should have a good £170-200 to spend.

Need to check various accounts and tot up how much I can syphon off at the end of the month. By 23rd all the bills will have gone out and I'll have a definite figure. but am hoping for around a grand. Oh, how i look forward to the end of the month when i can make that call to Mr Mortgagelender and pay some more off!

i agree that the cash ISA is the best route :)
  • Hope you didn't pay over the odds for your flat!
Well done on managing savings as well at just 22 years old!!!

It was a repossession and i probably got around £25k off the current market value. It was an utter bargain, got it in January 2011 so most of the UK was suffering post Christmas blues. Got a good mortgage rate as i'm a bank employee and got staff rates too!
    Mortgage 1: May 2012 £90,000 April 2020: £47,000
    Mortgage 2: £270,000😱 Jan 2019 £253,000 April 2020
  • managed to squirrel some more money away this month so grand total is £6500 now. I was hoping to save enough to fill mine and hubby's cash isas by the end of the financial year so still time yet but only 4 paydays so not sure if we can.

Keep up the good work everyone...

Ours is slowly growing; another £400 added this month yay! Brings total to £3100- we've been saving 5 months & were helped by a relocation bonus from boyfs work: hoping to have £5500 by Sept which will be a year after we moved in together. It's going to be a struggle but will be worth it when we buy our own place a few years down the line :0)
    First home- Oct’16 until June’21: £170.995- Overpayments made £13,784 (25% extra!).
New forever home- Sep’21 £309,449 @ 2.05%. Plan to clear it before 30 years!!!!!!
  • Joined every challenge thread on MSE in order to get my deposit bigger. Got SPC and VPC and 8k in 2012 challenge. Although looks like im in it for the long term as i dont really like flats and decent houses are only 30k more, So save a little more and get your own house etc.

Look what i found, this would be my dream first house.

A bit old inside, but love the outside and its out of the city for me.

Would need a 50k deposit etc, but with a partner (hint hint) im sure i could make that :-)

Real nice house. Ideal for me is £120k for basic....then extend extend extend with my own money...so value of house will increase steady as mortgage shrinks slowly....after a 3 year fix should be able to get a decent rate.
Work in progress...Update coming July 2012.
