Hi
Can i join as well?
I haven't posted much but have been lurking around the forums for ideas and inspiration.
I currently need to save for a house deposit, a holiday to Australia in May 2012, for some more study fees for the OU and some personal savings including a 3 month 'emergency buffer'.0 -
Hi All
Another £325 added to my emergency fund this morning taking the total to £5345. ISA now at £4525 - hoping to max this out before Christmas with my next (and last) wage from teaching.
Now need to get myslef organised with my self-employed accounts - been a bit lax with these over the past few month. That will be a job for over the Christmas break.
Well done to everyone on the savings so far.

well done snooping_around thats a fantastic achievement!
I just popped in to update my sig to £6555 and also have £1050 saved for yearly expenses and hols which I am not counting as it is earmarked for spending.
I am trying not to be blindsided by xmas and have done most of it, took advantage of the telegraph coupon last week for £10 off a £60 spend in Lidl. Had to laff as the advertising was targetted at the people who would be buying lobster and champers and I got stocked up on weetabixies and flour etc! I did get loads of shopping though (2 trolleys) and have stocked up the pantry it is now overflowing to the spare bedroom!
Have a nice xmas everyone and try not to spend up! Welcome and good luck also to newbiesSave £12k in 2012 no.49 £10,250/£12,000

Ive also put on hold the idea of investing in property, although id love to move out of my parents house, I dont feel now is the right time for various reasons.
Good to read this thread and see so many people reaching their targets. Keep up the good work folks.

Right so i need to get everything down and i will be popping in here every month (around pay day) so i'm all up to date.
I have an ISA with Santander and this has around £3400 (would love to max this out by April)
I have a savings account that i use for household unexpected bills such as if my washing machine broke and for other payments like yearly ground rent etc. This currently has £1300 but i like it to be at £1400 so will pop £100 in there next pay day.
I also have a 'fun' savings account which currently has £1520. I'm saving up for a holiday!
As well as this i'm involved in a work's sharesheme which takes out £23 a month from my wages. I won't be able to access this until 5 years time though and i've only just started the scheme (has a grand total of £46 accumulated so far lol)
I also overpay on my mortgage £55 a month but want to overpay with a lump sum of £1000 in the next six months. I have a bonus in February so it may go towards that!
By April i should be able to save more with a pay increase (2.5% for inflation?) and the fact my council tax will fall by about £46. Also saving money as i have joined Giff Gaff and take the £10 a month package whereas before it was between £25-30 with a different provider!!!)Mortgage 1: May 2012 £90,000 April 2020: £47,000
Mortgage 2: £270,000😱 Jan 2019 £253,000 April 20200 -
I need some serious motivation! I want to save £10k next year, and it'll be hard but I'm sure I can do it.
The thing that bothers me is saving money all year for, say, car insurance, and then seeing it go it one drives me mad!
Can't wait to build up my main savings that I don't touch at all (for a house deposit), I think that will make me feel more positive.
One thing I have just done though is set up numerous savings accounts and labelled each as follows -
* Car (I put in £60 in monthly for MOT, insurance etc...)
* Holiday funds (currently putting in £350 a month, as we have a couple of holidays booked for 2012)
* Christmas and birthday (I put in £30 a month for presents throughout the year)
* Pension (Currently put in £160 a month - I don't know what to do about setting up an actual pension yet so I just put money aside each month into a regular saver for now...will get that changed though as soon as I know what to do!)
* House fund (I put in £450 monthly. This is my ISA which I don't touch, for my house deposit I'm putting together)
* I also put in £10 a month into another savings account for my godson for when he's older.
I think that's it! I think that'll help so that I know the total in each account is specifically for a certain thing so I won't mind some of it going on said things...!0 -

What!! How did you save so much so early? [/envious]
So much saving going on here, it really is a massive eye-opener. Sure, I save a lot (because I live at home) but I'm just dumbfounded about the age of some folk and/or the general level of savings per month. The salaries of the posters on this thread must be higher than the national average.0
