Hi Guitarman. I have a low income, much lower than the national average but live at home so have very little outgoings, meaning I can save about 80% of my income per month. When you live with parents its so much easier to build a big deposit up :)

I'm the same age and situation as you and I wanted to reach £15000 by Xmas and have got to £16600 roughly so really happy. I don't know about you but I hate clubs, don't buy a lot of clothes and love deals.

Crikey. I'm only just above national average wage and I live at home and my savings aren't anything like that. I did pay off an £8k car one year... and I HAVE done 4/5 big holidays... So ok, that's ~£15k right there. Oh well.

    Thanks for answering :)
  • Hi, I have been absent for a few months. I just popped in to share my good news. I am officially debt free today :j:j:j and having paid off £25500 since august 2010 I decided to now save up a £100000 house deposit. (ave prices of a 3 bed here are £280000 ish  ) I have just started off with £1000 today and plan to save hard and fast! Thank-you everyone who has given me tips etc over the last year and a bit. I made it YIPPPEEEE. It is a great feeling having no debts whatsoever. (especially as I only work 5 hours a week for a measly £6.55 / hr!!!)

    MERRY CHRISTMAS :T

Well done Catherine. I became fully debt free this year too. Can't believe the difference it makes not having to put money towards debt repayments every month. Good luck with your savings.

What!! How did you save so much so early? [/envious]

So much saving going on here, it really is a massive eye-opener. Sure, I save a lot (because I live at home) but I'm just dumbfounded about the age of some folk and/or the general level of savings per month. The salaries of the posters on this thread must be higher than the national average.

Mine is higher than the average but not megabucks! I have friends on similar/higher salaries who save nada, and friends on lower salaries who save quite a bit.

  • Just a quick update...I was surprised to have a bit extra from OH wages this month and what with general scrimping and saving, planning and quidco saved an extra £150 on top of the £300 a month into the isas making the grand total....£7045.08 (must round those pence up)

Feel quite positive for 2012 as I have not gone overboard this xmas and cut down on silly surplus stuff that we really dont need.

Good luck everyone for 2012 and saving up some money :)
