wow people seem to be doing really well
I'm not too sure about sealed pots, I think that they are brill and work really well for some people but I just never seem to have psare money in cash form because I like to keep my money in the bank (as soon as its out it gets spent!)
I'm struggling a lot at the moment because I've upgraded my account to a vantage account but that is my usual current account anyway so I 'm finding it hard to know how much I've got/increasing my savings by. I used to (pre-vantage) move anything I felt was extra/say if I got an extra £20 from something I would just move that straight over to a seperate savings account and I would send across my money to save and only leave enough in the Current account to last my budget..
I think I need a new current acount/to use my natwest account but its got a bit complicated. I've got a lloyds 1.6% thing which I've put any overspill from my £7000 into and I think it could be somewhere better but I'm not sure. I also have the regular 5% one but you can't really put too much in it I don't think
I think I'm due a payrise in Jan so perhaps then I can rejig my accounts, be allowed a third vantage and really think about where to put my money to make it work the hardest!
I'm tempted by the 1st home saver by santander... is this still a good offer do you think?
I'm not too sure about the mortgage interview...!?0 -

Do try to use the Vantage as a savings a/c, I do this and use a separate current a/c for everyday stuff.
I also have a 1st home saver, it pays pretty good interest. I started it with the max £5,000 and pay £300 a month into it. I don't mine about the interview tbh, will do it when the time comes.

I started a sealed pot after my mum bought one for my birthday this year. And ive mainly been putting notes and £2 coins into it and uping it by selling unwanted items through ebay and car boots.
I also save £20 a month but after reading some of this thread i feel ive caught the bug and want to up that after christmas. However I also put £20 into my sons too.
I really want to save for a deposit for a house.
Im going to aim for £6000  in one year starting from now!!!
Will have to check into this site alot more often for handy tips, freebies etc! :T

I've managed to save £237 this month. I'm expecting a couple of hundred pounds worth of ISA interest next week and I should have more spare cash to save in the new year, so I'm going to try and see if I can have £17,000 saved by the end of February!dooleysdollymix88 wrote: »Im going to aim for £6000  in one year starting from now!!!

Hi Savers,
Well done to everyone and good luck to those joining! :T
It was my birthday at the beginning of this month and Xmas shopping on Saturday just took a dent out of this months wages.
Had hoped to be at £1000 for the emergency fund by Christmas. I think now is the first time the recession has hit me, I'm saving just as much, getting paid the same (even got a raise in April) but somehow I always run out of cash by the end of the month now
I'm also starting to get itchy saver fingers, because of how some accounts are 13mths not 12! my investments and ISA expire end of April and end of May respectively. This means my annual review is a month later in 2011 and I want to start new products and get them locked in for the next year:)Mortgage Balance £182,789.00 of £259,250.00 Overpayment Total £48,847.13
Monthly payment down £258.82 Overpaid last month £1096.38End of month 11/20170 -

Hi all,
Haven't been on for a while - everyone seems to be going well though!
My 2010 update is that I have $6,500 in cash savings (as well as about $1000 in my 'bills' pot). Was hoping for about $17,000 BUT had to buy a new car in July after my old one died a dramatic death. Glad I was able to do so now I'm debt free and I love my new car. Worth the spend but has dented the savings.
Looking to save $30,000 by the end of 2011.
Good luck to you all.Saving hard for Financial Independence0 -
Hello guys!
I seem to be so muddled by the snow that I thought payday was tomorrow! Lovely surprise to see my bank balance!
Unfortunately I have missed all overtime this week - snow days on my non-contract days suck! If it snows on a wed, thur, fri I get paid anyway but on mon or tue I don'tTrying to balance it with the fact that I have used no petrol and spent no money for a few days but I am still short by a lot!
Anyway, didn't update last month: I had a mammoth pay check with some back pay and loads of overtime so was able to add £500 to my savings and put £150 away for car tax, mot and insurance etc. This is the most I've been able to save this year so very happy!
Haven't done badly this month either, I have £400 left over after I have budgeted for all the usual stuff but have only put £83.33 (saving OCD - bringing the total to £2800!) into my savings. The rest should cover the christmas shopping, partying and my iron maiden ticket
Hope everyone else has a good month!

Well my sealed pot total is £852.70!!! Very pleased!
It would have been £912.70 if OH hadnt 'borrowed' £60!
Start my sealed pot again tomorrow and trying to keep costs down on xmas...doing well so far. However got to travel from cornwall to blackpool so the journey alone will put a drain on my wallet
Well done everyone:T0
