Hey all - glad everyone's savings are growing nicely.
I'm now at £5047.79/£6500.
Car insurance is due in a couple of weeks - eek! My renewal was £956 but I've managed to get it to £557 which is a little better - though still more than last year!......0 -
Ooh I have been looking for a thread like this that I can join in!
Dh and I are saving for a deposit for a house. We currently have about 14k (exact figures to follow) and I am hoping to get as much as possible before about March. I am looking to ebay my quality goods(!) and do anything else I can to save those buckos!
We have been saving since mid 2006 and although it dosent look like much the true figure is much higher. We bought and paid for a car inbetween (paid off the finance early) and I had my third baby in April 09. We managed a holiday this year too.
Definitely time to get on with it now though. Got DH on board and the older kids too!
I am hoping when we have our home to become mortgage free so when I get to my goal I am gonna enrol on the MFW board. I already have a mortgage pig!0 -

Welcome to the thread ViHan :j
Have you set yourelf a target to reach when you get to March - or is it more of save as much as you can?
HostieSaving for a deposit for a place of my own.....:jSavings so far £29,450/£40,000:j 73.6% SAVED!!!1poll £23.90/£40.00 (claimed 1x£40)No Monthly Car Payments left! Paid off on the 5/11/10!0 -
Target under discussion with Dh, I would like to see us achieve 16,000 by then.
I have had a brief chat with him as it seems we are losing momentum with it, but we are desperate to move. 3 children in a 2 bed house and not enough room to swing a cat!
Plan:
More ebaying
Paid surveys etc online
Save small change/spare coins
Have some No Spend Days - aim for 50% NSD
Work on reducing shopping bill and meal planning
Dh is a coach driver and I have staked a claim on his tips
Am standing with baked goods on a christmas fair next saturday weather permitting!
I already do stuff like downshift, read papers online, walk rather than bus and shop around for best deal but we need to (as a family) work on not being frivolous with takeaways etc.0 -
:hello: Vihan and welcome to the thread!

It would have been £912.70 if OH hadnt 'borrowed' £60!
Start my sealed pot again tomorrow and trying to keep costs down on xmas...doing well so far. However got to travel from cornwall to blackpool so the journey alone will put a drain on my wallet
Well done everyone:T
Oh the joys of living in Cornwall!Haven't looked on this thread for ages :S really should have but better late than never I suppose!
Was working as a supply teacher from January-October so wages were quite erratic and I ended up "borrowing" from my savings, which I wasn't happy about it but needs must and although I wasn't really saving for anything specific it was there for emergencies.
Got my first wage from starting new job 30th NovemberI want to save at least £1000- hopefully £1500 but got to sort Standing Orders and outgoings properly first, I currently rent but hope to be able to get a nice lump sum for either a house deposit or if decide to continue renting I can have a nice holiday. Just looking forward to watching my savings grow really!!!
Congrats on your job! I did supply for a year and know how hard it is to save!
I'm not going to be able to save too much over Christmas as I seem to have a lot of people to buy for this year and the cost seems to add up so quickly! Also all my friends come back at Christmas expecting 2 weeks of non-stop partying. I'm good at staying home some nights, and I don't drink much but it still seems to cost so much!
Anyone have any moneysaving tips?"It is often said that before you die your life passes before your eyes. It is in fact true. It's called living." Terry PratchettBought our house 2012Married 2015
