About 5 years - I only really got serious about saving in 2007 though, when I discovered MSE and now I am so much more savvy than I was. I am saving more each year as I get pay rises so hopefully will have saved £12,000 in 2010. Interest helps it along too (along I wish IRs would rise).Get to 119lbs! 1/2/09: 135.6lbs 1/5/11: 145.8lbs 30/3/13 150lbs 22/2/14 137lbs 2/6/14 128lbs 29/8/14 124lbs 2/6/17 126lbs

Hi everyone
Still working on my figures and target. Dh has gone off touring Christmas Markets this time, he has instructions not to spend lol
I have been home today with my 3 girls and for a changeI cooked a proper sunday dinner from scratch. Shameful I know, but since Dd3 came along we have had a heavy reliance on convenience and it struck me that it must be contributing to the increase in our shopping bill. So to add to my list: Back to cooking from scratch in an effort to reduce my grocery bill further.

top tips for not spending so much when you go out..
1. only go to the cash machine once, get out a set amount and don't spend anymore than that or go back to the cashpoint
2. drink less
3. drink slower
4. plan the night so that you can get a taxi back with people/a driver/take turns to drive
5. get a glass of water with each drink you get and sometimes just alternate with water...
just some things I do sometimes!0 -

Wow 5 years thats really impressive!
A tip I have started for going out is to get the set amount out before your night out and leave the card at home! Also if your just going with a few friends meet at someones house for a bottle first. Much cheaper than buying drinks at the pub!0 -
Been and got the figures today from my untouchable accounts. They are not really untouchable in the sense its hard to access, but I have a blanket ban on breaking into them
Isa - £10530.47
Regular Saver - £750.00
Flexible Saver - £3030.20
Grand total £14310.67:j
Dh has an Isa too but we use that for unexpected car bills so I am not counting the funds from that here.
My regular saver matures in 9 months time and interest will be added then
All those accounts have a preferential rate of interest being a plus account holder at my bank.
Sooo that means to get to my 16,000 target by march 1st I have to save £1,689.33  And christmas is on the way!!!
I have been looking at diaries for motivation and need to get my backside in gear with ebay and paid surveys.
Dh and I had a long talk about this and I think he is on board. Last night he suggested a takeaway but soon came round to the idea of me cooking instead (i'm not that bad, honest)
We went to town today as he broke the screen on his phone  which is going to cost £30 to repair. Meanwhile he had to buy a cheapie phone (£16) to get him through till it comes back. He can;t do without being a coach driver. Fortunately he got some tips while on tour at the weekend so they have paid for most of that.

Don't post on here very often, but thought I would do an update.
Just gone over the £15,000 mark and should have a bit more money coming in over the next couple of months.
Although will probably have to pay for flights and hotel in Thailand next March / April as I am going across to work in a school there as part of my teacher training course.0
