Somehow managed to ssave nothing last few months because of driving lessons, last month finally saved £400 of money accumulated throughout last 6 months. At least it's something but nothing as satisfying as last year! I would like to reach £10k in savings by Feb but with Christmas and driving test on the way it might be hard!MFW #185

Anyone able to suggest how I might be able to get a better rate on the following cash?
£1k @ £5 p/m net (Halifax Rewards) < Main C/A
£2.5k @ 4% net (Santander C/A)
£500 @ 4% net (Lloyds Monthly Saver) < £250 in each month from Vantage
£3.6k @ 3.5% ISA (Halifax 2 Year Fix until Aug 2011)
£6.5k @ 3.2% net (Lloyds Vantage 1)
£5.5k @ 3.2% net (Lloyds Vantage 2)
£5.5k @ 3.2% net (Lloyds Vantage 3)
Gives an overall rate of 3.41% at the moment, only slightly ahead of inflation.
Considered switching to First Direct for £100 and their 8% Monthly Saver but as I don't have a salary at the moment not entirely sure if I just transferring in £1.5k a month will qualify for the switching incentive.
Any other ideas much appreciated.0 -

I have 3x Halifax Reward Accounts, a Santander First Home Saver maxed out, a Lloyds Vantage a/c paying 4% (might actually open another), a 2.8% ISA, a 3% ISA and a few low paying but instant access ac/s with my immediate cash needs in them. I think that's it but may have missed one or two lol.
No idea how to better those but very tempted by the FD regular saver. Do it for the £100 if nothing else - I did, then closed it and got another £100, thanks FD!!

I currently have a sum of money in a -post office account. Bank of ireland.
I am nervous about keeping it there and want to open a NS&I account and move most of the money to this.
Can anyone tell me how I do it. I do not really trust easily and don't want to send huge cheques in the post. I cannot draw a cheque on the post office account. If I want any more than £15K, I have to write to the post offoce and get them to send me a cheque.
What is the best way of opening a NS&I account and transferring money into it. If I have to get a cheque, do I ask for the cheque to be made out to myself and then post this to NS&I, OR do I need to get the cheque made out to NS&I?0 -
Yay for tax returns, just got 780 pounds from a foreign government but still have a few months to wait for the UK to cough up. Never seeing home has it's good sides! Finally over the 45k hump but definitely not going to make 50k this year.
Anyone else quite looking forward to a 2010 update? Will be so good to see how much we've all saved in total!0
