if your in lloyds -why not go for the vantage account offering 4pc less tax--better than nothing in the isa-it can be set up online and you can have multiple accounts per person--i think 3 accounts per person-see the thread on the details here

Was that addressed at me? If so, I looked into Vantage, but it looks like to earn the 4% you have to have £5k-£7k in the account, no chance of that with me. I do have Classic 'Plus' which pays 2.5% :)

On the subject, I opened a joint account with my OH once we got the house to pay the mortgage out of. It's with LTSB, but I can't seem to add 'Plus' to the account (I did my own one online), so we're stuck with a crappy 0.1% rate. Any ideas whether it's still available?

i just think the max is 7000k--there is no minimum--just as long as you have 1000 going through the account per month--you can run your current account inplace of classic plus--

    Just found the above. Seems its staggered, so £1-£999 = 0.10%, £1000-£2999 = 2%, £3000-£4999 = 3% and £5000-£7000 = 4%

With our joint account we're going to the in the £1000-£2999 bracket most of the time, going into the lower bracket every now and again. It looks like it's worth converting the joint account over, as it's currently at 0.10% normal 'classic'.

GRN--i am always interested when people state the amount of money saved as net monthly percentage of income-is this after pension? i once read a headline figure that a person should aim at saving 29pc but i never understood from the article if the pension was included--

I just work out the percentage based on my net pay and the money I put into savings. I don't have a real pension, but I do put money away each month, and this is included in the percentage.

at the moment i have difficulty sorting out the total i now save(hopefully my new found ability to use spreadsheets over the coming months will reveal things)-when i lived in the uk i always saved about 30pc regularly after my pension-it has stood me in good stead in life--i am 47 and 'relaxed' about the future---i worked hard and saved hard from 17 to 40 but took the foot off the gas then!--i know for the bulk of my industrious life i wasnt married --its very hard being so disciplined as a couple.

  • Didn't save too much this month but my total is now just over £4500 or 69.5%.
I did get a bonus this month but have put that to one side to cover car insurance and Christmas.

  • Hey,

Im a newbie currently saving towards a deposit for a house so thought id throw my hat into the ring and keep people updated.

Im looking to buy in may/june 2011 with my GF.

my personal target is to have £10k saved by the end of may.

I Currently have £3139.78 in my ISA

and £109.57 in my flexible saver. (was £700 but purchased some tickets for myself and others, still waiting for money to come back in)

i also have a credit card with a limit of £1k that is on its limit. (0% on purchases 12 months) was only acquired to pay my car insurance and boost my credit rating.

unfortunately that will probably be how it stays untill january as im on sick from work with a broken hand for 3 weeks in the current month, so will be 1 weeks wages n 3 @ stat sick pay :(

on a plus note tho ive done 90% of my christmas shopping already :j

    will keep you updated
