does anyone keep a log of the history of their savings over the past years -for a guide to the future--over the past 4 years i saved 20k per annum by investing outside the uk--i made a definate move in 2006 to spread my money outside the UK because i saw the fragility of our system-i 'invested in Turkey'--the preceeding 5 years to 2006 i saved 9,6k pa by keeping it in the uk.-- i dont take account any profit -loss in my home in the uk because its not a saleable asset!(i think its probably worth less than in 2006 now!)
    mfw'11 No68- 55k mortgage İO--little to nothing saved! i must do better.

"I know how that feels (savings going backwards) but it sounds like you could definitely make up the deficit soon! Good luck!"

Thanks Dippykitty, I started this savings journey in March and have steadily increased my savings. This is the first time i have gone backwards but i was fairly sure this was going to happen. I knew increasing my revenue stream will in the short term have this effect. However most of my expenditure is out of the way except car insurance in late Jan so i should be back on track next month.

Not fab, to be honest. Emergency fund is up to £5k now, which is one of the goals for 2010 but I can't see myself being able to add much more to that or the other savings. Freelancing isn't going great and I'm looking for something else but not much coming in to add to the savings sadly!

Enough of me feeling sorry for myself though! You're doing so well! :D

I guess it's easier to deal with if you knew it was on the cards! Good luck with it! :)

  • Still frequesnt the MFW board more than here but if you will have read my last post on the MFW you will see i've not had the greatest of months, its not that i've sunk into debt its just that Ive lots of things to shell out for and only managed to save around £500?????????? I bet you you think i'm mad but Im really used to saving more and feel dissapointed but I guess thats the high standards I set myself!

So on a brighter note I've realised I'm now earning almost £15 a month in interest between my accounts, thats £180 per year!!!!! and Ive realised im almost hit the 10k mark, though this will take a hit as i've prmosied Mrs MM i'l propose before the end of the year, I promised last year that I'd do it in 2010 so need to get a ring sorted! Anyway the break down is as follows:

    A&L £2,500 £8.02 Interest per month
    A&L Regular Saver £400 £1.21 Interest
    HSBC Regular Saver £2000 £4.06
    Santander ESaver £1,685 £2.03
Premium Bonds £2450 ( could do with a win this month!)

    Total £9035
    Millionaire in Training
    Mortgage: £27,535 (49% paid) Aim £25,000 by December 2015
New House Mortgage £197,836 (4% Paid) Aim £194,000 by December 2015

hello :) i would also like to join in this thread, i know its long term but over the next 3-5 years i need to save around 30k, i already have a 7k start from some inheritance so 23k to go. i really want a bigger house but we cant afford a bigger mortgage so the only way to get my wish is to save save save, we are only 1 waged family so is going To be Hard work.

Just an update from me, in the 3 months since i joined this thread i have managed to double my savings and i now have 15k saved!

My situation has changed a bit whereby i have been able to save a lot more and also had a lucky competition win and sold something for another 3k, im so cuffed!

Means i only need another 15k to go instead on 23k, so hopefully the move will happen in 2-3 years now rather than the 3-5 i predicted. Well thats if everything stays the same, im sure something will throw a spanner in the works!

Two good things today. I received a cheque from HMRC for £455 in apparently overpaid tax (I had no idea), so that's gone straight into the ISA and boosted that nicely. It's also payday, and the first month for a year where I've received full pay. Going to see how much I can stack tonight, but going to clear and cancel my overdraft (£200), as I've been meaning to do this before December as that's when LTSB start charging £5 per month when you use your AGREED overdraft (even if it's only £20). Not having that thanks very much, so cancelling the o/d so it doesn't happen my accident.
